Treat Depression with Fluoxitine
Fluoxitine is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Fluoxitine affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.
Medical condictions such as major depressive disorder, bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder) obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) can be easily treated with the help of Fluoxitine.
Fluoxitine is sometimes used together with another medication called olanzapine (Zyprexa) to treat depression caused by bipolar disorder (manic depression). This combination is also used to treat depression after at least 2 other medications have been tried without successful treatment of symptoms. The medical conditions described in this article are not the only conditions which can be treated with the help of Fluoxitine .
Not all drugs can be taken along with Fluoxitine, following drugs must be avoided during the treatment period:
pimozide (Orap) ,
thioridazine (Mellaril) ,
monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate).
You may have thoughts about suicide when you first start taking an antidepressant, especially if you are younger than 24 years old .Hence it is necessary that the patients visit their doctor for regular check up for the initial 12 weeks of the treatment period.
Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself. The antidepressant can cause dangerous lung problems in the unborn child if the medications are consumed at the time of pregnancy. This is a difficult situation as stopping the treatment in the middle can lead to reoccurrence of depression. Hence one must always consult a doctor before taking any decision regarding this matter as they alone would be able to guide you properly. It is not advisable for young patients below the age of 18 to indulge in this treatment without first consulting the doctor.
