Although, having a baby is a breathtaking journey for any woman, after continuing nine months of pregnancy’s varying symptoms, including enormous pregnancy weight gain, it’s natural that first thing that struck your mind is find means for losing weight after pregnancy as soon as possible. However, don’t be too impatient. Life after giving birth is full of new pleasant and unpleasant surprises, which can cut across your plans to lose weight.

Weight gain during pregnancy period is healthy and natural, but many women crave to return to their pre-pregnancy bodies. The average weight gain during pregnancy is between 25 to 35 pounds. During the birth, new moms shed about 12.5 to 14 pound, leaving 12 to 21 pounds of excess weight to be lost during the postpartum period. Just as it is best to put on weight slowly and steadily during your pregnancy, you need to be slow and steady in losing weight after pregnancy. Here are some weight loss tips for getting yourself back into shape:

Drink at least 10-12 glasses of water every day. Replace your high sugar, high calorie drinks like colas and juices, with lukewarm water, and a squeeze of lemon in it.
Say no to junk food and keep your healthy snacks, such as nuts, crackers, and fruits handy. Also, avoid readymade tinned foods.
An average weight woman requires approximately 2500 to 2800 kcal/day during lactation. The diet you take should be balanced, rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates. You should take adequate amount of milk. Iron and calcium supplements maybe taken if required.
Breastfeeding helps in losing weight after pregnancy. Nursing babies uses about 1000 calories per day, so breastfeeding is one of the most efficient ways to make sure that the extra body fat and water added during pregnancy are transferred to your baby.
Exercise is one of the best resorts for weight loss after pregnancy. Exercise will help you lose those extra pounds put on during pregnancy, ease post-partum depression and unlike dieting, it won’t harm your baby, if you are nursing. It is important that you go slowly with your exercising schedule. Wait at least six weeks after your delivery. 10 minute exercises should be started with and then increased when feel more comfortable. Try to do only low-impact exercises like walking, swimming, or yoga. Come up with your individual exercise program – derive one you can stick to – and try to find a companion in your friend or a new mum like you. Stop immediately, if you are short of breath or feel dizzy.

As somebody rightly stated “nine months on, nine months off” for losing weight after pregnancy. Do not be impatient to lose weight quickly, as you took nine months to gain that. Pregnancy and weight gain are like peas and carrots – they go hand in hand and it is healthy for you. Therefore, when trying to lose those pregnancy pounds, be sensible and do not entertain extremes: no junk food and no celebrity diets. Balanced diet full of nutrition, coupled with exercise is the safest and healthiest way to get back to your pre-pregnancy shape.

To get in shape llosing weight after pregnancy becomes really important. By starting out on some physical activities like exercise, yoga, swimming etc, you can ensure weight loss after pregnancy.

One of the essential prerequisites for a healthy baby is an adequate pregnancy weight gain for the mother during her pregnancy. You should get insights into the need for weight gain during pregnancy and explore the link between obesity and pregnancy, if you are planning a baby or have just got the good news.

Need For Weight Gain During Pregnancy

The one time where weight gain among women is actually applauded and encouraged is during pregnancy. Various studies have indicated that babies, which do not receive adequate nourishment while in the womb, tend to be smaller and are prone to cardiac problems later in life. Starvation while in the womb leads to stunted development of various organs including kidneys, pancreas, and liver of the baby. A higher rate of infantile death is also noticed among such babies.

Doctors recommend a pregnancy weight gain of at least 20 pounds for all pregnant women, irrespective of their weight prior to pregnancy. The food eaten by women during pregnancy needs to be chosen with care with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, and other seeds, forming the majority of the diet. Consumption of added fats, sugars, white flour, and refined carbohydrates should be minimal even during the progress of pregnancy week by week.

Pregnancy And Obesity

However there is another problem. If unchecked, pregnancy weight gain in some women may even reach the level of obesity. Many women do not bother about their figure after pregnancy, believing firmly that having a baby leads to losing your once perfect figure, forever. Although, this may be partly true, new moms also need to recognize the link between pregnancy weight gain and pregnancy obesity.

A new mother may have several emotional issues to deal with regarding her newfound status of being a mother. For many women, the incessant pressures and responsibilities that go along with her new role may also lead to overeating, which in turn might cause weight gain, change in her body rhythms and ultimately obesity.

Some women also hold firm the conviction that the weight gained while pregnant is permanent and all attempts to get rid of it would be futile. However, they do not seem to realize that it would only take about a year to overcome the effects of pregnancy weight gain and regain their earlier figure.

Determining of the link between obesity and pregnancy could disclose other health issues apart from obesity. A sudden excessive pregnancy weight gain could be indicative of other factors, such as depression or physical factors such as difficulties faced in the course of pregnancy, ailments of the reproductive system or incontinence.

Conversely, a new mom faces another risk due to her pregnancy weight gain. As her body changes to adapt to her weight gain, the effect may be a further increase in weight gain.

To conclude, although a new mom may consider her body on a lower priority scale when weighed against all her duties and concerns regarding her baby, her responsibility towards herself and a healthy body should not be neglected, as her well being is ultimately her baby well-being too.

Pregnancy weight gain is essential with the growth of Pregnancy week by week; however pregnancy obesity is a complete no-no. So check your pregnancy weight gain.

Well you can now stop worrying about all those extra pounds that you will put on during pregnancy. New generation moms can easily get back their pre-pregnancy figure within a year.. With the right daily regime, workouts and a good diet; now getting pregnant does not mean getting fat.

However the right diet does not mean that you start dieting right after you deliver. Whether or not you are breast feeding, the first few months you should concentrate on nourishing yourself through a proper diet. You can start exercising along with a good diet intake. After a couple of months, your body returns to its normal level and then you can start your loosing weight. You can take weight loss tips from new moms who have lost weight after pregnancy.

How Many Months Before I Return To My Normal Weight?

Weight gain during nine months is in the normal limits (20 – 30 pounds) then you should be able to lose weight in less than a year. This process takes time but ensures that your weight loss is at the right pace and safe. Post pregnancy period usually leaves the new moms low on self esteem. Some would be still coping with massive weight gain; some would constantly worry about milk stains on their clothes. Many women might not get enough time to take even a proper bath. Women do tend to get depressed for these reasons and do not know how cope with the change in their life. Many women constantly worry about sex after long nine months. They do not feel very comfortable indulging in intercourse as their body is out of shape.

These problems can be easily dealt with if you work towards your goal with a healthy weight loss regime. Pregnancy weight loss should be planned in consultation with your doctor. You should also keep in mind your physical condition before making a diet or exercise plan.

Exercising Helps

As a balanced diet plays a vital role in weight loss, exercise also plays a major part. Exercising however should not be started without the doctor’s consultation.

Exercise helps in post pregnancy weight loss. It also helps to increase your self confidence and lends you a hand if you are dealing with depression. Exercising affects breast milk is a myth and you should not bother about it.

Weight Loss Through Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding also helps moms’ lose weight. Breast feeding releases hormones which help your body to return to its normal level which in turn helps you regain your normal weight.
Breastfeeding is not a fool-proof method of weight loss after pregnancy. In most cases, women start losing weight only after they stop breast feeding.
Also relying on breast feeding may make you careless towards your diet and workout routine.
You can go on a low fat diet even if you are breast-feeding. Do ensure that you are taking at least 1800-2000 calories per day.

Remember that your body has gone through a lot of strain and changes. Post pregnancy care is very important for your body to heal and also to ensure weight loss after pregnancy.

Gaining weight during pregnancy is a common occurrence to moms. Don’t get too discouraged. Losing weight after baby is not impossible. Begin a healthy diet to work towards your goal to achieve a healthy weight loss after pregnancy. Here are some tips you can lose weight after pregnancy that you will find them useful.

1. Eat sensibly

The weight you have gained throughout the pregnancy period took 9 months to accumulate. Don’t expect it to vanish just like that. So give yourself some time, to understand the procedure of weight loss and to let the measures work upon you. Eventually you will lose weight. Eating a well balanced diet has been one of the success factors for weight loss after pregnancy. Basically, you can follow these simple and effective points:

a. Eat small meals 5-6 times in a day.
b. Take mid-morning snacks.

c. Start eating more leafy greens and fibrous fruits.
d. Cut out deep fried and processed foods as much as you can.
e. Cut down or eliminate alcohol intake.
f. Avoid empty-calorie-foods like sugars and ice-cream as far as possible.
g. Concentrate on more of protein, vitamin and mineral rich food instead of calorie dense food.
h. Drink lots of water. Avoid sodas as they are filled with lots of calories.

2. Exercise

Exercise is a vital component of weight loss after pregnancy. Most pregnant women experience postpartum depression after giving birth. Exercising will be one of the key to be able to beat this depression. Try these exercises,

a. jogging
b.swimming
c. yoga

d. cycling
e. even taking the stairs instead of the elevator counts.

Meanwhile, you can choose to do some light exercises like walking, stretching and breathing exercises. Select your ideal physical activities you may enjoy with your family or with friends. You can also work-out in the privacy of your home and according to your own time schedule. This will help in weight loss after pregnancy according to individual lifestyle. Be conscious of any discomfort when you are working out. If you feel dizzy, stop the exercise and relax.

You had everything checked and double checked for your baby’s arrival: diapers, wipes, onesies, bottles, car seat and stroller. But how does a mother prepare for postpartum depression? Is there a checklist for dealing with feelings of sadness, irritability, and the emotional ups and downs of being a new mom?

When you’re down, it’s almost impossible to think about losing weight. And those extra pregnancy pounds just add to your anxiety. So here are a few ideas to improve your mood, give you hope, and get you on track to losing weight after baby:

1. Surround yourself with family and friends. Don’t isolate yourself. Ask others for help, both emotionally when you need someone to talk to, and physically when you need someone to help you with baby for an hour while you take a nap.

2. Exercise with a friend. Misery loves company right? Recruit your mom, sister, neighbor or friend to walk around the block with you and baby. Make it a regular weekly appointment and ramp it up as you’re able (move from walking, to walking and jogging, or walking and weight lifting). Make exercise a priority. It’s a proven way to minimize postpartum depression.

3. Take 15 minutes a day for your appearance. Shower, get dressed, and put on a little makeup every day. When you look presentable, it will do wonders for your self esteem. On the other hand, if you look frumpy, you will feel frumpy.

4. Set realistic fitness goals. When you have something to shoot for, you won’t feel hopeless. Make a goal to lose one pound a week. You’ll be encouraged as you see your progress. Moms who set realistic goals do better emotionally than those who don’t.

If your depression lasts for longer than 2 weeks or is very deep, talk with your doctor. The most important thing is to seek help and solutions. You’ve accomplished the massive challenge of childbirth; you can get through this too. You can do it mom!

It is conceivable to lose weight after pregnancy if you are prepared to put in more effort and discover the secrets to your success. There are no short cuts, quick fixes or overnight miracles. If you are anxious about losing post pregnancy weight, read on to learn what this secret is and how it can benefit you lose your post pregnancy weight progressively.

You can rest assured that weight loss after baby is utterly possible. The difficulty you face is that after you delivered your baby, you learnt the most difficult part to get rid of and tends to stick around stubbornly – extra weight gained after pregnancy. There are many ways to maintain an appropriate weight and remain healthy. The key to success in order to lose pregnancy weight efficiently consists of 3 simple steps.

Step 1: Motivation

There is a majority of the women who are very self conscious over their weight gained. Pregnancy weight gain is a norm process for all moms. Therefore, its worthwhile to start your forethoughts on how to lose your pregnancy weight. Having a goal is the initial step to keep you motivated.

You can start by:

a. Pairing up with a mate for moral support and companionship
b. Forming a group to work out regularly
c. Rewarding yourself as you reach a certain stage of your target

Step 2: Proper Diet plan

It is important to have your own personal diet plan when you have decided to lose weight. Healthy weight loss after a pregnancy implicates eating healthy foods.

To see the greatest results, here are some tips to share with you:

a. Food groups should be balanced
b. Carbohydrates should be minimum
c. Sufficient amount of vitamin and minerals
d. Consuming lots of vegetables and fruits Eating food high in fiber
e. Eat on a regular basis, do not deliberate skipping meals
f. Avoid consumption of junk food

Step 3: Exercise

The last step to weight loss after pregnancy is to follow a proper physical activity regime. Always select an exercise which you will love to do and is enthusiastic in. Many moms start exercising hard with full dedication but after sometime that spirit reduces and they give up. Therefore, take your time and begin exercising slowly. You will gradually find the changes in your appearance from the toning exercises.

Benefits that you will gain from exercising:

a. Minimize stretch marks
b. Relaxes your mind which elevates mood
c. Helps combat fatigue
d. Releases the build up from anxiety and depression
e. Prevent against cardiovascular diseases

You know that this can be a difficult process as its often tough to maintain for a prolonged period. Therefore, if you persist, you can be successful in losing post pregnancy weight. My advise is to stay motivated, continue your routine exercises and maintain a healthy diet. Also, remember the importance of your health. Try to refrain from those quick weight loss programs. Their results are usually temporary. Know how to choose the right and safe way when you start any weight loss programme to help ensure the right attitude and a positive weight loss without compromising with your health or the health of your baby.

Every woman gains weight when she’s pregnant, and many women lose all the extra pounds soon after the baby is born. For others, though, every new child adds an additional 10 to 25 pounds that seems almost impossible to get rid of.

If you know that you tend to put on weight during a pregnancy because you never really lot the extra pounds after your last baby was born, it’s a good idea to discuss the issue with your doctor during your prenatal visits.

She’ll make sure you’re getting the nutrition you need, and will help you avoid gaining more weight during the pregnancy than you should. However, with the various hormone changes, weird food urges, and the lower rate of exercise that most of us get when we’re carrying a baby in the womb, it’s not always easy to follow the doctor’s advice. If you have “morning” sickness all day long, ice cream is sometimes the only thing you can get yourself to eat.

So, what do you do to get rid of the extra pounds after the baby is born?

First of all, have one more talk with your doctor. Make sure that you don’t have any lingering nutritional deficiencies, such as anemia, that a diet could make worse.

If you find yourself eating “comfort food” to counteract unhappiness or stress, ask your doctor to check to see if you have post-partum depression. Depression is common after a child is born, and it often causes people to gain weight, but it’s treatable – so there’s no reason to let it drag you down. If it’s a problem for you, talk to your doctor.

If you’re going to breastfeed, getting nutritional advice from your physician is particularly important. Fortunately, nursing your new baby may actually help you lose the extra weight – but under any circumstances you need to make sure you don’t short-change the baby (or yourself!) by going on a crash diet.

With your doctor’s approval, you’ll want to get back into normal daily routines as soon as you can. Don’t over-do, of course, but start moving again if you tended to sit a lot during your pregnancy. Habits are easy to build, and difficult to break.

To help you get back into walking for exercise, think about getting a front carrier or sling so you can take your baby with you on short walks through the neighborhood instead of always putting him in the stroller. The baby will enjoy being close to mom (it’s a great way to put a fussy baby to sleep), and you’ll have more fun, too. And you’ll lose more weight when you walk because you’re carrying the baby.

Since you now have a new family, it’s a good idea to learn as much as you can about healthy eating, so all of you can feel your best and be as healthy as possible. If you’ve slipped into sloppy eating habits during your pregnancy because cooking right just seemed like too much trouble, now is the time to snap out of it and put those veggies back on the menu.

Eat a big salad at the beginning of every meal, and make them fun – with lots of variety and taste – so it starts to become second nature. Be sure you always have more veggies on your plate than anything else, as well, because that way you’ll be able to fill up and feel satisfied without being tempted to weigh yourself down with the calories that hide in bread, pasta, red meat and desserts.

The one thing that will be the most helpful to you is to remember that the way you eat now will influence your new baby’s health for many years to come. Many people have discovered that they have a hard time losing weight until they realize their own eating habits may be hurting their kids.

Doing something for yourself might feel like a bother and too much work, (especially if it means cooking a real meal instead of grabbing a pizza), but doing the same thing for people you love is fun and feels completely worthwhile. Of course, your baby wont be eating those veggies for a while, but you’ll want to get in the habit now.

Like most people, you’ll probably discover that it’s easier to stay committed to your baby’s health than your own. It’s just human nature. Fortunately, good eating habits help both of you stay healthy, and it will help you lose weight.

If your baby grows up in a household where good, wholesome food is always a high priority, and where sweets and other treats are only given only on special occasions, your child will grow up strong and healthy. If you take the time now to learn how to eat right, you’ll naturally lose your extra weight while you eat those veggies, and the whole family will benefit from your efforts.
