When lots of women take into account the uterine fibroids, just one thing sets off in their mind and this is anxiety. The drug will cause the hypothalamus gland in the brain to create gonadotropin release hormone setting in motion ovaries stimulation occasions so as to develop progesterone and also estrogen. Once the Gn-RH is employed for treatment, they induce the amount of oestrogen and progesterone to decrease, the fibroids lessen in dimension, the monthly period ceases and also the blood cell count is enhanced.

There are other uterine fibroids treatments that an individual is able to use in case the fibroids are not bending the inner part of the uterus. Primarily the medical doctors use a process described as Hysterectomy which gets rid of the growths by eliminating the womb and more often than not the cervix as well. This has long been proven as being the sole long lasting way of dealing with fibroids within the uterus. Its sole major side-effect is the fact that when conducted on a female she will not bear a little one right after that.

Myomectomy is one more uterine fibroids treatment and calls for the removal of fibroids whilst protecting the uterus. This leaves the girl with pregnancy capabilities although the probabilities of repeat are great. Talking about the methods along with your health care provider is important before making that serious decision.

Acupuncture and Moxibustion is a medical treatment that has been practiced for thousands of years in China and other Asian countries as well as now around the world. It is used as a means of treating and preventing disease. Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific sites (acupuncture points) along the body’s meridians to clear energy blockages and encourage the normal flow of energy (Qi) through the individual. The general theory of acupuncture is based on the premise that there are patterns of energy flow (Qi) through the body that are essential for health. Disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for disease. Acupuncture corrects imbalances of flow at identifiable points close to the skin.Today, acupuncture is an effective, natural and increasingly popular form of health care that is used by people whole over the world.

The modern scientific explanation about the effectiveness of Acupuncture treatment is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain, including endorphins, enkephalins and other neurotransmitters. Either these chemicals will change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones that influence the body’s own internal regulating system, bringing about a normalizing effect on neuroendocrine function. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.

Acupuncture needles are so fine that there is no discomfort when they are inserted but a slight tingle (known as needle sensation) may be experienced. The needles are usually left in for approximately twenty minutes to more. The Doctor may also stimulate the acupuncture points using other methods, such as moxibustion (a traditional technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb used to facilitate healing), cupping and electro-stimulation etc. in order to re-establish the flow of qi.

Why we consider Acupuncture Therapy for our treatment ? Because:

01. It is very effective to treat some diseases, where other methods of treatment could not achieve good result or failed like Arthritis, Rheumatism or different types of pains, Autism (ASD), Depression, Anxiety / Psycho-somstic problems, Delayed speech, Sleep problems, Attention deficit disorder, Mental/Behavioral problems, IBS, Depression, Sleep problems, Hyperactivity, Epilepsy, Tonsillitis, Sinusitis, Bronchitis, Headache, Bronchial Asthma, Angina pectoris (heart’s pain), Paralysis, Hair falling, Acne, Burger’s / Raynuad’s Disease, Chronic wounds, Hair falling, Cerebral palsy, Weak memory, Dyslexia (weakness in study), causeless sterility etc.

02. This therapy don’t require any medicine. So toxicity due to medicine will be avoided.

03. It is free from side effect.

04. It helps to increase immunity power of the body; therefore Acupuncture makes defensive mechanism of the body strong.

The effectiveness of acupuncture is well-documented. Throughout its long history, acupuncture has established a solid reputation as an excellent alternative for health care that actually works, and is very effective to treat some diseases, where other methods of treatment could not achieve good result or failed. The World Health Organization recognizes Acupuncture as a viable means of treatment for a wide range of conditions.

An Acupuncture doctor should possess adequate knowledge and experience for providing proper treatment to his/her patients. To avoid the unwanted complications in Acupuncture treatment please avoid taking treatment by quack / fake Acupuncturist. There are many around us without proper qualifications. Because inadequate knowledge and experience may lead to serious medical problems.

Though this method of treatment has already been started in our country but due to quite less number of medically qualified acupuncture doctors available in our country and lack of proper perception about the application of this method in some specific diseases, the patients are depriving from the advantages of Acupuncture & Moxibustion treatment. So, I have made an attempt to provide little information about the effects of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in few conditions. Many of the facts and figures quoted in the following sections are the clinical trials carried out in China and others countries and results from my own clinical experiences.

Diseases of the Muscles, Bones and Joints:

Sprains: Sudden injury or sprains usually respond well to acupuncture. The pain resulting from a sprained shoulder, ankle etc will often continue for some days or weeks after the initial injury. Once a clear diagnosis has been made acupuncture can usually be used to relieve this type of pain. The experience of a many of Acupuncture doctors including me, shows that, of the people treated for differing acutely painful conditions, about 70 percent obtain significant pain relief. The main advantage of treating these acute pains with acupuncture is that chronic pain can be avoided. A sudden shoulder injury may produce pain and immobility for many months, sometimes years, but if acupuncture is used when the pain occurs then it seems that chronic pain may be avoided. However, Acupuncture treatment also very helpful to manage chronic problems too.

Arthritis: Arthritis and the rheumatic pains are quite a common problem. People frequently complain that their arthritic knee pain is worse in cold or damp weather and this demonstrates quite clearly the origin of the concept of pathogens in traditional medicine.

A great deal of research work has been done to investigate the effects of acupuncture on the pain. Clinical trials have been completed on knee, hip, elbow, neck and lower back pain, and the information from these trials shows that significant pain relief can be achieved in about 70 per cent of those who receive acupuncture. Acupuncture also has a ‘magical quality’ that drugs do not have. In spite of these problems, acupuncture is a safe and effective form of treatment for arthritis.

Headaches: Acupuncture treatment has been used to treat a wide variety of headaches, particularly migrainous headaches, and the results obtained have been very encouraging. The published work suggests that between 65-95 per cent of all headache sufferers obtain significant and long lasting pain relief from acupuncture treatment. Migraines seem to respond as well as, if not better than, other types of headache. Acupuncture therapy for headaches may cause the headaches to vanish completely, or occur with a markedly decreased intensity and/or frequency. The pain relief resulting from acupuncture treatment can sometimes be maintained for some years and re-treatment is usually required less frequently for headaches.

Diseases of the Nervous System:

Strokes: The brain is divided into many different functional areas; one area controlling movements, while another dominates the sensations of touch, speech and pain. The functional impairment that occurs with a stroke depends on the area of the brain that is damaged; if the speech or movement area is damaged by a lack of blood supply then the patient may be unable to speak or move properly. The research work suggests that acupuncture increases the blood supply to the brain, and for some unexplained reason this seems to improve functional ability and acts as a stimulus to recovery after a stroke. Clinical reseach trials completed by the Chinese doctor’s state that some effect can be gained from acupuncture in about 80 per cent of strokes. Western medicine often has little to offer the stroke patients and therefore acupuncture therapy is always worth considering. Ideally strokes should be treated within six months of the damage occurring. The Chinese doctors also treat their patients for long periods and a stroke patient may receive one hundred or two hundred acupuncture treatment sessions before being declared a success or a failure.

The Neuralgias (Nerve Pain): Trigeminal neuralgia usually presents with severe unilateral facial pain. Its cause is unclear but the painful facial spasms are often precipitated by cold or wind. The Chinese acupuncturist claim to be able to gain improvement, with acupuncture, in about 70 per cent of cases of trigeminal neuralgia. Acupuncture can undoubtedly have a beneficial effect on this type of pain.

Postherpetic neuralgia is the pain that occurs after an attack of shingles.Shingles is a viral infection of the nerves, It seems that of those patients with established postherpetic neuralgia, about 40 per cent gain some degree of long term benefit from acupuncture treatment. There are a vast number of aches and pains that are often described as neuralgic. Many of these occur as facial pain and most of them cause severe discomfort. It is always worthwhile to attempt to alleviate these pains by using acupuncture treatment.

Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia and Other Mental disorders: Acupuncture is clearly effective in helping symptoms such as insomnia and bed-wetting, anxiety, behavioral problems, depression etc. The Chinese doctors have completed trials on some of the more serious mental diseases, such as schizophrenia. In a trial involving over 400 patients they claim a 54 per cent cure rate for this disease, with a further 30 per cent showing ‘significant improvement’. However, from a variety of excellent research papers it is clear that acupuncture can influence quite radically many areas of the central nervous system, as well as neurotransmitters and others brain functions also. Therefore this therapy has a great role in brain related problems or neuro-developmental dysfunction.

Nerve Paralysis: Paralysis can also be treated by a variety of acupuncture techniques. The acupuncture must be continued for a long period. Sometimes daily for six months and the results from some of the research works are very encouraging. Researchers claim that some 50-60 per cent of patients are likely to gain significant return of function if treated with acupuncture.

Acupuncture and moxibustion can be used to treat Facial paralysis and the research claim a 75 per cent complete recovery rate The Chinese research also claim that a further 20 per cent gain benefit from acupuncture, although not complete recovery. Sometimes very old cases are also response with tremendous results, as I noticed.

Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy, CP, nerve deafness etc: Acupuncture treatment is also very effective in Parkinson’s disease, Cerebral Palsy (CP), Epilepsy, Nerve deafness, and a large variety of this kind of other problems. According to some studies, Parkinson’s disease may be accompanied by an imbalance of energy along one or more meridians. The muscle stiffness, soreness, imbalance etc. of Parkinson’s may be alleviated by a series of treatments. It is always wise to remember that acupuncture is a harmless technique and can sometimes give excellent results in above cases where other medical methods have failed.

Autism /ASD, Cerebral Palsy etc: Acupuncture along with herbal therapy have been found highly effective for treating children with brain dysfunction, resulting in improvement in the patient’s overall functional abilities. Excellent results are being achieved through simultaneous application of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in the cases of ASD / Autism and Cerebral Palsy in different countries of the world. There are several research papers, articles etc. that has been published all over the world about the efficacy of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicines in this context. In my clinical practice I am also getting very effective result by applying integration of Acupuncture and Herbal treatment. I noticed that, formulated Herbal Medicine along with acupuncture session gives much result other than only Acupuncture treatment or only Herbal Medicine. Like other diseases, I treated several patients. Some of them improved tremendously just after few days of treatment.

ADD and ADHD: Acupuncture can help the patients to manage the Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). It can be an excellent complementary therapy for the treatment of ADD and ADHD. In some cases Acupuncture works as a magic bullet for the treatment of ADD and ADHD. A research showed that, Acupuncture treatment has a good effect on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, its total effective rate was higher and the changes in abnormal electroencephalogram and the curative effect were better.

Diseases of the Digestive System:

IBS: An increasing number of studies have been conducted on treating IBS, with promising results. These studies have documented that Chinese medicine can effectively treat IBS in a safe and drug-free way. In some of cases, from the first session of treatment patients started to realize that Acupuncture works.

Indigestion: Exact figures for success rates are not available, but the ‘clinical impression’ that arises from a number of acupuncture doctors indicates that about 60 per cent of patients gain some long-term relief of their symptoms with acupuncture.

Diseases of the Respiratory System:

Asthma: Acupuncture causes the contracted muscular walls to dilate; the mechanism of this is unknown, but there is good Western research data to support this claim. A recent Chinese clinical trial on asthma showed that some 70 per cent of asthmatics gained a ‘very good effect’ from acupuncture and moxibustion. The acupuncture treatment was able to decrease the frequency and intensity of asthmatic attacks over a period of a year or more. This result is encouraging as it shows that acupuncture and moxibustion can affect the response of the body to the environmental stimuli causing asthmatic attacks. Our clinical experience also supports this efficacy of Acupuncture and Moxibustion medicine. I noticed that after completion of course of treatment some patients fell and live better without attack for a several years. It seems that they never have asthma.

Bronchitis: By opening up the breathing tubes Acupuncture, can allow the lung tissue to function efficiently. The mechanism of acupuncture in bronchitis is probably much the same as in asthma, allowing more air to enter the lungs. Recent research works has shown that about 50+ per cent of bronchitis ‘benefit’ from acupuncture. It is also very effective for the treatment of some ENT problems like Tonsillitis, Sinusitis, Pharyngitis, Laryngitis, Discharge from ear etc.

Diseases of the Heart and Blood Vessels:
Angina: Using sophisticated measuring equipment the Chinese researchers have completed a variety of trials to assess the effects of acupuncture on the heart, and they have shown a marked increase in the functional ability and efficiency of the heart muscles after acupuncture. Several experiments carried out in the western countries give clear support to the idea that acupuncture does have an effect on the circulatory system. This is further supported by clinical work, which shows that some 80 per cent of patients with angina have improved after acupuncture.

The Correction of Abnormal Heart Rhythms: Heart diseases can frequently cause an abnormal rhythm to the heart beat; this may manifest itself as palpitations, an irregular heart beat, or dropped beats. In recently acquired arrhythmias, acupuncture can be effective in up to 70 per cent of cases.

The Use of Acupuncture in Addiction and Obesity:
There is some excellent physiological and clinical evidence to support the use of acupuncture method to treat obesity, smoking and hard drug addiction. The withdrawal symptoms experienced by people giving up smoking, or drugs, can be alleviated by raising the levels of endorphins in the nervous system.

Some people believe that the desire to eat is also mediated by the endorphin level in the brain. It is clear that endorphin levels throughout the nervous system can be increased by Acupuncture. It must be stressed that acupuncture cannot replace willpower. It can only help the withdrawal symptoms, or hunger pains, experienced by those already motivated and committed to solving their particular problem.

Reduce the Discomforts and Side Effects of Chemotherapy for Cancer:

The effect of acupuncture on chemotherapy-induced nausea, vomiting, insomnia etc. has been studied over the past 20 years, and clinical evidence gathered to date has been favorable. Current practice guidelines recommend acupuncture as a complementary therapy for insomnia, uncontrolled nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy.

Fertility and Gynecologic Problems: Women who are having problems with conception, premenstrual symptoms or menopausal issues will often see positive results with Acupuncture medicine. If drugs or hormones must be used, side effects may be reduced. For women who are experiencing disorders of conception, my own experience suggests that acupuncture along with herbal medicine is more effective and much less unpleasant and dangerous than hormonal treatments or in vitro fertilization procedures.

Foetal Malposition: In about 60 percent of women the foetus turns naturally prior to the thirty-fourth week of pregnancy; this can be increased to 90 per cent with the aid of this treatment After the thirty-fourth week, when natural version is less likely, the Chinese claim that 80 per cent of foetal malpositions will be corrected permanently by this procedure.

Anaesthesia for Labour and Delivery: Acupuncture anesthesia is widely used for caesarean sections in China. A report recently published, discusses the results of 1,000 cases managed in this manner. The Chinese Acupuncturist claim a 98 per cent success rate in the abolition of pain, a quicker recovery rate from the operation, less blood loss, and the obvious advantage of the mother being able to see the baby at, or soon after, birth. Acupuncture can also be used to provide pain relief in normal obstetric deliveries. The experience of a wide variety of acupuncturists in the western world would indicate that it is a useful and effective procedure.

Acupuncture Anaesthesia:

Acupuncture anesthesia is widely used in China and it has been used in a wide variety of operations, from minor procedures to open heart surgery or brain operations. It is undoubtedly an effective form of pain relief in the majority of people, but there is always a small percentage who fail to gain adequate analgesia from acupuncture. In general, acupuncture allows for a safer operation, with less likelihood of complications, and a swifter post-operative recovery.

Many women that have been diagnosed with female infertility are desperate to find treatment or a cure that will enable them to have babies. I have heard from and read of women that have submitted to a barrage of embarrassing tests to try and pinpoint the cause of their infertility, so the doctor could provide a treatment.

Female Infertility Treatment – Medical Options

Depending on if your doctor can find a definite scientific cause for you infertility, various courses of treatment may be offered to you. Fertility drugs are prescribed to cause ovulation, hormone balancing drugs are prescribed to even out hormone imbalances and surgery is often recommended to improve physical conditions such as endometriosis. The side effects of drug therapy have resulted in some true horror stories for the women seeking a female infertility treatment. Most women that I have spoken to, decided to discontinue their drug therapy despite the possible benefits, because they felt that it was doing them more harm than good.

The Truth About Ovecoming Infertility to Get Pregnant Naturally >>

Other women have found that in attempting to talk about nutritional, emotional and psychological factors as affecting their infertility, with their doctors; they experienced negative responses. It seems that a lot of the medical community preoccupies itself with treating the symptoms of female infertility, rather than the causes.

If you are seeking to address your personal female infertility treatment from a more holistic point of view, then there are many practitioners of alternative medicine (including those that specialize in infertility, conception and pregnancy) that address all aspects (physical, nutritional, emotional and psychological factors)of female infertility treatment.

Female infertility treatment – alternative treatments

Many girls have been able to overcome their infertility issues utilizing methods that range from changes to their diet and exercise regime, to steering clear of exposure to specific chemical and environmental influences. Here are some of the alternative female infertility treatments that have proven successful for other girls:

* Nutrition for Fertility – you entire body requires certain vitamins and minerals in order for it to function to the greatest of its capability. Other dietary factors such as eating highly processed food (e.g. fast food, bleached sugar and flour) can affect how well your human body functions. For example vitamin B6 (found in high quantities in garlic, tuna, banana, celery and cabbage, to name a few) has been attributed to balancing the estrogen/progesterone balances in women. Lisa Olson, in her literature on fertility, conception and pregnancy, describes in excellent detail how you possibly can change your diet as a female infertility remedy.

* Exercise for Fertility – Ladies that exercise strenuously tend to experience irregularities in their ovulation and in some cases stop having their periods all together. Too much exercise can put lots of strain on a woman’s boy and lessen physique fat levels below what is needed for pregnancy to occur. In the event you partake in a lot of strenuous exercise, ease off for a while and give your body a opportunity to recover.Just as getting underweight and over-exercised can minimize your fertility, so can becoming overweight and not active enough. Actually research suggests that being overweight can double a woman’s odds of becoming infertile. If you’ve a weight issue and are you are trying to get pregnant, loosing some weight will make you healthier, your lifestyle much better, and improve your chances of conception.

* Understanding your Fertility – Another step in female infertility treatment is ensuring that you might be familiar with your ovulation cycle and fertility period. When you may be specific that that you are having intercourse during you 12 hour ‘window’ of fertility, you maximize your chances of conceiving. There are numerous techniques which you can use to find out about your ovulation and fertility. Once you discover to recognize the signs, you will be in a position to pinpoint the finest time to get pregnant.

* Take a Holiday to boost your Fertility – There have been anecdotal reports that show that some ladies who had been diagnosed as infertile, have actually conceived even though they were on holiday. Quite a few ladies undergoing female infertility therapy experience high levels of pressure and anxiety, and even though they are relaxing on holiday they get pregnant. When your mind and body get a opportunity to take a break from the strain and pressure, you relax and occasionally which is just what nature needs so that you can be able to take its course.

When seeking female infertility treatment, keep in mind that although modern medicine is still learning about all of the causes and cures of female infertility, it is still important to utilize all that science has to offer that can contribute to your health and wellbeing. Where ever possible combine the best of all world – doctors, nutrition, alternative and natural treatments, as well as emotional and spiritual health.

With all our medical advances, why is it that the incidence of depression and anxiety is skyrocketing. The World Health Organisation says that depression is the most disabling disease in the Western World today, yet all mental healthcare specialists seem to talk about is “evidence based” treatments such as counselling and anti depressants. Whilst these strategies have been shown to be helpful for some people, if this was really cutting edge advice, why aren’t we seeing the incidence of depression declining or at the very least plateauing. This in no way seeks to imply that medication and psychological counselling don’t have their place in treating depression, just that we are not exploring all the variables

Having interviewed thousands of people who have battled with depression, I am convinced that there are some serious issues with the “evidence based” approach to treating depression. These can be summarised as follows:

The “evidence” is where the money is

Unfortunately clinical trials are very expensive to run so private funding will only be directed towards those areas where “investors” can see a return on investment. In the world of depression treatments, this means that the vast majority of funds are directed towards medication and psychological counselling interventions. This means that important lifestyle strategies such as exercise, emotional support, nutrition, relaxation, and fulfilling work are relatively ignored. Ironically these less discussed strategies can be much less costly to implement.

When you’re holding a hammer everything looks like a nail

The vast majority of depression treatment studies are undertaken by doctors or psychologists. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this per se, most of these studies are evaluating areas where they have expertise (which makes sense). This means that the comparisons are often looking in isolation at one drug verses another (or a placebo) or one psychological intervention verses another. Quite often meaningful advancements in areas can come from someone outside the established “paradigms”. I love the story of the little boy who came across rescue workers who had been struggling for 3 hours with sophisticated hydraulic equipment trying to dislodge a truck which had been tightly wedged under an overhead bridge. After being encouraged to leave the site he quietly said “Why don’t you let down the tyres?”.

We are not just DNA

As human beings our bodies and minds are intricately linked. Depression treatments that focus purely on a “biological illness” are seriously limited. Much of the despair that exists in the western world today can be linked to loneliness, family breakdowns, excessive and unfulfilling work, and financial crises. Saying that depression is caused by low levels of serotonin is like saying teen pregnancies are caused by a sperm fertilising an egg – yes, but…. Depression treatments that fail to reconnect us with our passions and purpose are ultimately going to be short lived solutions.

What are the right depression treatments?

To find out what works best in managing or overcoming depression, we must ask the people who are living with depression what works best for them. In 2007 I asked just that, and their answers were (in order) exercise, support of family and friends, psychological counselling, fulfilling work, relaxation/meditation, nutrition and medication.

Coincidentally, the Black Dog Institute (BDI) –one of the pre-eminent mood disorder units in the world – also undertook a study directly asking those with depression what helped them most. Although there were some differences in the studies, lifestyle strategies were also shown to be extremely important. One of the authors of the published study, Professor Gordon Parker, who has been practicing psychiatry for over 30 years, has now started advising General Practitioners and their patients to exercise regularly to aid recovery.

If Professor Parker, who has published over 600 clinical papers and book chapters regarding mood disorders, can learn something from these results, perhaps we all can.

A spa menu can get overwhelming and confusing, especially for non-regulars, so here are some pointers for you.

First, know what you want. Do you want a simple facial or a complete body treatment like a massage? According to a Wesley Chapel spa staff, most people get confused with what they really want, especially first timers so brief descriptions are put on the menu to give customers an idea of what their getting.

Facials come in an array of options. Facials focus on the skin on or face. According to a massage spa in Wesley Chapel, a basic facial should include cleansing, massage, masks, and dermatological procedures when necessary. You can opt for detoxifying treatments to anti-aging. You can also choose to simple exfoliate your skin so for newer and younger-looking skin.

Facial treatments are also meant to relax you with the help of a facial massage. Tensed muscles on your head, brows, cheeks, and chin are manipulated to release stress.

A more popular spa treatment is massage therapy. Wesley Chapel clients of one well-known massage spa have come to enjoy the health benefits of a good massage for quite some time now. Common picks for massage techniques include Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, acupressure, and trigger point massage. Other treatments include sports massage, pregnancy massage, and reflexology.

Massage therapy provides a lot of physical, emotional, and psychological benefits for a person. It helps relieve muscle pain, treats stress-related ailments like insomnia and anxiety; and it promotes a sound sense of self. For instance, a Swedish massage targets tired and stress muscles as a result of daily habits and activities. Studies have also shown that regular Swedish massage treatments help insomniacs get more hours of sleep because it releases endorphins that make us feel more relaxed and levelled. This is the most popular choice among Wesley Chapel clients.

A deep tissue massage helps treat chronic muscle pain and headaches. It also helps regulate energy flow through out or body by unblocking joints and deep tissue muscles. A regular Swedish massage only reaches the first two layers of our muscles. The deep tissue massage can reach up to the 5th layer of muscles where lactic acid usually forms.

Reflexology helps us with our internal organs through manipulation of specific trigger points on our hands and feet. By manipulating these points, the therapist then assists in the proper functioning of our vital organs like our heart, lungs, and liver. Reflexology is the second most popular choice of Wesley Chapel clients.

The other specialized massage therapy techniques like the sports massage and pregnancy massage were designed for specific types of people. Obviously, the sports massage is meant for athletes and the pregnancy massage for expecting mothers.

A sports massage prepares the athlete pre-competition and warm down the athlete after the game. A sports massage prepares the muscles by increasing oxygen and blood flow, and it also stretches them for better mobility and flexibility. This massage technique, according to a New Tampa therapist, reduces risks of injuries and decreases recovery time in cases of sprains and other injuries.

The pregnancy massage, on the other hand, relieves the mother of back aches, sore legs, cramps, headaches, and even mood swings. The objective of a pregnancy massage is to help the mother during the gestation process as well as during childbirth by preparing the mother and helping her adapt to her new body image.

Now that you know the basic spa treatments, start dialling and set that appointment with your favourite massage spa in Wesley Chapel, New Tampa, and Wiregrass.

Is trepidation something you experience based on information from constantly in addition to insomnia? Do you think the current the both of such situations are connected? You may favorably be correct. A feeling of angst is often somewhat this keeps customers awake at night.

Those people who suffer on insomnia are often quite alarmed throughout the daytime. Either of these kinds of two things may make the other, what that proves is such a a person can actually become trapped in a continual cycle trepidation and insomnia which in turn creates even larger number of sleeplessness and anxiety.
People who often experience anxiety and insomnia connected to it, in all probability the explanation for being kept awake during the night hours is due to your brain is not diverted with your daily responsibilities and cares, so it takes this opportunity to start going over the disquieting thoughts that you’ve managed to avoid during the day. In the day time, whilst you are awake you have many things to occupy your mind such as your career, kids, family, and a multitude of other responsibilities.

However at night when these thoughts are not occupying you, your mind at liberty to roam. This can result in both anxiety and insomnia because your thoughts race around in your mind just when you want your mind to calm down and go to sleep. Also this may well be the way your brain attempts to avoid the things that are causing the anxiety. If you go to sleep and then the next thing that happens is that you awaken yourself and go to work, coming face to face with a disagreeable situation,

Your conditions of anxiety and insomnia might be connected as your body is trying to the objectionable situations for as long as is possible by stopping you from sleeping. Other people find that their anxiety and insomnia are connected because they experience a lack of sleep and then as a result they become irritable and anxious. The human body requires sleep so that the brain can shut out and distractions and prevent it from being highly active twenty four hours a day. When you don’t get enough sleep, your brain will be working too much and as a result it becomes fatigued.

What this really means is that the anxiety and insomnia are actually causing each other to occur; the more a person stays awake at night, the more anxiety you will feel as moodiness and irritability gets increasingly worse. You may not be able to determine which of them is causing the other if you are experiencing both anxiety and insomnia, however if you can see how they are connected then you can start to realize why it is important to consider both conditions at the same time.

Generals

As far as the body is concerned, alcohol is a poison. Some of the effects of chronic alcohol consumption include damage to the brain (women may be more vulnerable to chronic alcohol consumption), liver, pancreas, duodenum, and central nervous system. Alcoholism causes metabolic damage to every cell in the body and depresses the immune system. It may take years before the consequences of excessive drinking become evident, but if an alcoholic continues to drink, his or her life span may be shortened by ten to fifteen years or more.

Alcohol is broken down in the liver. The repeated consumption of alcohol inhibits the liver’s production of enzymes, impairing the body’s ability to absorb proteins, fats, and the fat-soluble vitamins (vitamins A, D, E, and K), as well as B-complex vitamins (especially thiamine and folic acid) and other water-soluble vitamins. Many essential nutrients are not retained for use by the body; they are rapidly eliminated through the urine. The toxic effect of alcohol on the liver is very serious. First, excessive amounts of fat accumulate in the liver, a result of alcohol’s effect on the body’s ability to digest fats properly. Next, the alcoholic may develop hepatitis, a condition in which liver cells become inflamed and may die. The final, usually fatal, stage of alcoholic liver damage is cirrhosis of the liver, a disease characterized by inflammation, hardening, and scarring of the liver This prevents the normal passage of blood through the liver, inhibiting the organ’s ability to filter out toxins and foreign substances.

The liver is one of the most robust organs of the body. It is the only organ that has the ability to regenerate itself after certain types of damage. Up to 25 percent of the liver can be removed, and within a short period of time, it will grow back to its original shape and size. It continually takes abuse, but if cared for properly, it will function more than adequately for decades. Alcohol is one of the toxins that the liver doesn’t handle as well as others. The liver cannot regenerate after being severely damaged by alcohol.

There are many other health consequences of alcoholism as well. Alcoholics often experience damage to their peripheral nervous systems. This damage may show up initially as a loss of sensation in the hands or feet, with an accompanying difficulty in walking. Chronic drinking also causes inflammation of the pancreas. This further hampers the body’s ability to digest fats and other nutrients, and can lead to diabetes.

Alcoholics face an in creased risk of mouth and throat cancer due to the direct toxicity of the alcohol. They may also experience high blood pressure, reduced testosterone production, visible dilation of blood vessels just beneath the skin’s surface, and pathological enlargement of the heart that can progress to congestive heart failure.

The social consequences of alcoholism can be very destructive as well. Alcohol abuse takes a tremendous toll on society through traffic and other accidents, poor job performance, and emotional damage to entire families.

Alcoholism and pregnancy

Drinking during pregnancy is particularly dangerous. The consumption of alcohol during pregnancy can cause birth defects and increases the chance of miscarriage. Alcohol passes through the mother’s placenta and into the fetal circulation. This toxic substance depresses the central nervous system of the fetus. Further, the fetal liver must try to metabolize the alcohol, but since the fetus’s liver is not fully developed, the alcohol remains in the fetal circulation. Women who drink during pregnancy generally give birth to babies with lower birth weights. Their growth may be retarded or stunted; their brains may be smaller than normal, and there may be mental retardation as well. Limbs, joints, fingers, and facial features may be deformed. Heart and kidney defects may occur. Some children exposed to alcohol in uterus become hyperactive at adolescence and exhibit learning disabilities. Every drink a pregnant woman consumes increases her child’s risk of being born with fetal alcohol syndrome, and also increases her chances of miscarriage. Even moderate amounts of alcohol may be harmful, especially in the first three to four months of pregnancy.

Signs and Symptoms

Alcoholism is often accompanied by the following signs and symptoms. Symptoms vary with the amount of alcohol taken and how long it has been abused.

Craving for alcohol
Inability to control drinking habits
Withdrawal symptoms, such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety, when alcohol use is stopped after a period of heavy drinking
Tolerance (the need for increasing amounts of alcohol in order to feel its effects)
Psychological, social, occupational dysfunction
Malnutrition, anorexia
Cardiovascular symptoms (leading cause of death)
Increased levels of cancer (second leading cause of death)
Repeated infections—for example, tuberculosis, urinary tract infections
Lung conditions—complicated by smoking; for example, respiratory failure, pneumonia
Central nervous system disorders—unsteady gait or stance; cognitive impairment; psychiatric manifestations (for example, mood, anxiety, psychotic disorders); blackouts; coma; sleep disruptions
Diarrhea, vomiting
Gastrointestinal bleeding
Men—increased sexual drive with decreased ability to maintain an erection
Women—miscarriage, stopping of menstrual periods
Inflammation of the pancreas
Hepatitis (a disease of the liver)
Poor wound healing
Buildup of fluid in the body
Swollen, painful muscles, paralysis, lack of reflexes
Increased bone fractures
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Hypothermia (reduction of body temperature)

Moderate drinking

Alcoholism is caused by chronic over-consumption of alcohol.

Moderate drinking is probably best defined as the level of drinking that poses a low risk of alcohol-related problems, both for the drinker and for others. It is difficult to give a quantitative definition of moderate drinking because alcohol can have different effects on different individuals.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health of Ontario and the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse defines moderation, or ‘low risk drinking guidelines’ as follows: ‘Healthy adults who choose to drink should limit alcohol consumption to 2 or fewer standard drinks per day, with consumption not exceeding 14 standard drinks a week for men and 9 standard drinks per week for women.

Who’s Most At Risk?

People with the following conditions or characteristics are at a higher-than-average risk for developing alcoholism.
Genetically predisposed
Preexisting psychiatric disorder
Began consuming alcohol at an early age
Stress

What to Expect at Your Health Provider’s Office

If you or someone you care for is experiencing symptoms associated with alcoholism, you should see your health care provider. He or she can help make a diagnosis and guide you in determining which treatment or combination of therapies including alternative therapies will work best.

Your provider will take a history and do a physical exam to look for specific organ damage or trauma and to evaluate if your muscles are tender or weak. Laboratory tests will reveal any indicators of alcoholism, such as high blood alcohol. Imaging techniques may be used to diagnose alcohol-related disorders.

Treatment Options

– prevention

The nature of treatment depends on the severity of your alcoholism and available resources, and must address both medical issues and rehabilitation. Treatments may be provided in a hospital, a residential treatment setting, or on an outpatient basis.

- treatment plan

To understand treatment and make the right treatment choices, it helps to have an overview. Treatment is often seen as having four general phases:

Getting started (assessment and evaluation of disease symptoms and accompanying life problems, making treatment choices and developing a plan)
Detoxification (stopping use)
Active treatment (residential treatment or therapeutic communities, intensive and regular outpatient treatment, medications to help with alcohol craving and discourage alcohol use, medications to treat concurrent psychiatric illnesses, 12-step programs, other self-help and mutual-help groups)
Maintaining sobriety and relapse prevention (outpatient treatment as needed, 12-step programs, other self-help and mutual-help groups)

Promising types of counseling and complementary alternative medicine teach people to identify situations and feelings that trigger their urge to drink and to find new ways to cope without using include alcohol use. In addition, because the involvement of family members is important to the recovery, many programs also offer marital counseling and family therapy as part of the treatment process. Some programs also link up individuals with community resources, such as legal assistance, job training, child-care, and parenting classes.

Here are 12 questions to consider when selecting an alcohol or substance abuse treatment or rehabilitation program, according to the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (USA):
1. Does the program accept your insurance? If not, will they work with you on a payment plan or find other means of support for you?

2. Is the program run by accredited, licensed and/or trained professionals?

3. Is the facility clean, organized and well-run?

4. Does the program encompass the full range of needs of the individual (medical: including infectious diseases; psychological: including co-occurring mental illness; social; vocational; legal; etc.)?

5. Does the treatment program also address sexual orientation and physical disabilities as well as provide age, gender and culturally appropriate treatment services?

6. Is long-term aftercare support and/or guidance encouraged, provided and maintained?

7. Is there ongoing assessment of an individual’s treatment plan to ensure it meets changing needs?

8. Does the program employ strategies to engage and keep individuals in longer-term treatment, increasing the likelihood of success?

9. Does the program offer counseling (individual or group) and other behavioral therapies to enhance the individual’s ability to function in the family/community?

10. Does the program offer medication as part of the treatment regimen, if appropriate?

11. Is there ongoing monitoring of possible relapse to help guide patients back to abstinence?

12. Are services or referrals offered to family members to ensure they understand addiction and the recovery process to help them support the recovering individual?

- prognosis

Recovery from alcoholism is a life-long process. In fact, people who have suffered from alcoholism are encouraged to refer to themselves ever after as “a recovering alcoholic,” never a recovered alcoholic. This is because most researchers in the field believe that, since the potential for alcoholism is still part of the individual’s biological and psychological makeup, one can never fully recover from alcoholism. The potential for relapse (returning to illness) is always there, and must be acknowledged and respected. Statistics suggest that, among middle-class alcoholics in stable financial and family situations who have undergone treatment, 60% or more can be successful at an attempt to stop drinking for at least a year, and many for a lifetime.

– drug therapies

Your provider may prescribe the following medications.

• Tranquilizers called benzodiazepines which are used during the first few days of treatment to help patients safely withdraw from alcohol

• Antipsychotic medications for people who do not respond to benzodiazepines

• Naltrexone, a recently approved medication to help people remain sober. When used in combination with counseling, this medication may lessen the craving for alcohol and help prevent a return to heavy drinking.

• Disulfiram, an older medication, which discourages drinking by causing nausea, vomiting, and other unpleasant physical reactions when alcohol is used

Medications for specific organ damage or for symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal.

- complementary and alternative therapies

A comprehensive treatment plan for alcoholism may include a range of complementary and alternative therapies.

– nutrition (Western Medicine)

A well-balanced, nutritionally adequate diet helps to stabilize alcohol-induced blood-sugar fluctuations and decrease cravings. Following these tips can help reduce symptoms.

• Eliminate simple sugars.

• Increase complex carbohydrates (whenever possible, replace highly processed grains, cereals, and sugars with minimally processed whole-grain products).

• Consume adequate protein. (If you eat meat, steer yourself toward the leanest cuts. If you like dairy products, skim or low-fat versions are healthier choices. Beans, soy, nuts, and whole grains offer protein without much saturated fat and with plenty of healthful fiber and micronutrients).

• Increase essential fatty acids (essential fatty acids – two polyunsaturated fatty acids [PUFAs] that cannot be made in the body are linoleic acid [omega 6 family – e.g. oils from Safflower, Sunflower, Corn, Soya, Evening primrose, Pumpkin, Wheatgerm] and alpha-linolenic acid [omega 3 family – e.g. Linseed (flaxseeds), Rapeseed (canola), Soya beans]. They must be provided by diet and are known as essential fatty acids. Within the body both can be converted to other PUFAs such as arachidonic acid, or eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). In the body PUFAs are important for maintaining the membranes of all cells; for making prostaglandins which regulate many body processes which include inflammation and blood clotting. Another requirement for fat in the diet is to enable the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K to be absorbed from food; and for regulating body cholesterol metabolism.)

• Decrease saturated fats and fried foods (saturated fats – usually derived from animal sources e.g. lard, suet and butter. Saturated and monounsaturated fats are not necessary in the diet as they can be made in the human body).

• Avoid caffeine.

Potentially beneficial nutrient supplements include the following.

• Vitamin B1 (50 to 100 mg a day – Alcoholics are deficient in B vitamins, especially B1 )

• Vitamin B2 (50 mg a day), B3 (25 mg a day), B5 (100 mg a day – Aids the body in alcohol detoxification. Needed to counteract stress), B6 (50 to 100 mg a day), B12 (100 to 1,000 mg a day)

• Vitamin C with bioflavonoids (3,000 to 10,500 mg a day in divided doses – )

• Vitamin E (400 IU a day) to protect the heart

• Calcium (2,000mg daily at bedtime) a vital mineral that has a sedative effect

• Magnesium (250 – 1000 mg ) to decrease withdrawal symptoms

• Selenium (200 mcg a day) to protect the liver

• Zinc (15 mg a day) to aid metabolism

• Amino acids: carnitine (500 mg two times a day) to protect the liver, glutamine (1 g a day) to decrease cravings, glutathione (300 mg a day) to protect liver and heart

• Multienzyme complex (as directed on label. Take with meals – To aid digestion) plus proteolytic enzymes – As directed on label. Take between meals – Essential for assimilation of protein. Caution: Do not give these supplements to a child.)

• Chromium (250 to 500 mcg twice a day) helps reduce sugar cravings and reduces low blood sugar related to alcohol cravings.

- herbs

Herbs are generally available as dried extracts (pills, capsules, or tablets), teas or decoctions, or tinctures (alcohol extraction, unless otherwise noted). Dose for teas is 1 tsp/cup water steeped for 10 minutes (roots need 20 minutes). Herbal extracts made with alcohol should be avoided in alcoholics. For TCM herbs the dosage is prescribed by the TCM Practitioner or Herbalist.

– Western Herbs

The use of certain Western herbal remedies may offer relief from symptoms.

• Milk thistle (Silybum marianum): 80 to 200 mg three times a day, to support the liver

• Primrose oil (Oenothera biennis ): 1,000mg 3 times daily, with meals. Used successfully in Europe, this supplement is a good source of essential fatty acids.

• Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale): 2 to 8 g of root three times a day in tea, or 5 ml three times a day of leaf tincture helps detoxify the liver. Works well with milk thistle.

• Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora): historic use for hysteria, tension, and nervous disorders, especially anxiety; a cup of tea before bed can help insomnia.

• Valerian root (Valeriana officinalis ) has a calming effect. It is best taken at bedtime.

• Desiccated liver capsules (500 mg three times a day) help heal liver tissue.

- Traditional Medicine Herbs & Diet

Dietary plan for the Garden of Eden: In the book of Genesis, Chapter one, verse 29, God tells man what he should eat: “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of the face of the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seeds; to you shall be for food.”

Certain cooling, detoxifying foods are commonly prescribed by (TCM) in the treatment of alcoholism: tofu, mung bean sprouts, mung beans, fresh wheat germ, romaine lettuce, banana, either sugar cane or dried unrefined cane juice, pears, and spinach. Honey eaten by the spoonful until satiation during a hangover reduces the desire for more alcohol. Soups are helpful and provide a good medium for tofu, mung beans, romaine lettuce, and spinach in the diet.

Kudzu or Ge Gen (otherwise known as Pueraria lobata) is one of the earliest medicinal plants used in TCM. Researchers at the Center for Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences and Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA have many profound pharmacological actions including antidipsotropic (anti-alcohol abuse) activity. Although both the roots and flowers of Kudzu (Ge Gen), Radix and Flos Puerariae, respectively, have been used to treat alcohol abuse safely and effectively in China for more than a millennium (reduce cravings).

The herb American ginseng, Xi Yang Shen in Mandarin, (Panax quinquefolium) is prized in East Asia for the treatment of alcoholism, and may be used in conjunction with the golden seal or chaparral formulas. In the event of extreme weakness, American ginseng is indicated as part of the regeneration diet herbal formula containing it in equal parts (in fact this formula is a hybrid between Chinese and Native American traditional medicine):

Suma root (Pfaffia paniculata)
Dried Ling Zhi (Reishi – Ganoderma lucidum ), Maitake, or Shiitake mushroom
Job’s tear’s seeds (Coix lacryma-jobi)
American/Canadian Ginseng root (Panax quinquefolium)
Astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceus)
Because of its warming nature, do not use Chinese or Korean Panax ginseng. Avoid warming spices such as ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper.

After a cleansing program that purges heat and other signs of excess, high protein sources can be added for one to two years to rebuild the liver. It is very important to tonify the body after or even simultaneously because during cleansing a lot of qi (energy) is lost. TCM purging (cleansing) herb formula are balanced from this stand point.

Especially beneficial is spirulina or other green micro-algae; in cases of weakness, small amounts (1—3 ounces) of animal products may be necessary three or four times per week: sardine, mackerel, tuna, pork liver, and pork or beef kidney.

- Homeopathy

An experienced homeopath can prescribe a regimen for treating alcoholism that is designed especially for you. Some of the most common acute remedies are listed below.

• Arsenicum album for anxiety and compulsiveness, with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea

• Nux vomica for irritability and compulsiveness with constipation, nausea, and vomiting

• Lachesis for cravings for alcohol, headaches, and difficulty swallowing

• Lycopodium for low self-esteem, heartburn, impotence

Acute dose is three to five pellets of 12X to 30C every one to four hours until symptoms are relieved.

– Acupuncture

Alcoholics who stop drinking often experience withdrawal symptoms, especially during the first week or so that they abstain from alcohol. Insomnia, visual and auditory hallucinations, convulsions, acute anxiety, a rapid pulse, profuse perspiration, and fever can occur. With time, however, and with appropriate supervision if necessary, these symptoms pass and the alcoholic is set free to begin the lifelong work of recovery.

Acupuncture can help committed people to stop drinking by reducing or eliminating the withdrawal symptoms of alcohol abstinence and reducing cravings. Ear and/or body acupuncture can be used by TCM practitioners to treat people with alcoholism based on an individualized and thorough assessment of the excesses and deficiencies of qi (life force) located in various meridians. In the case of alcoholism, a qi deficiency is usually detected in the liver meridian, while the gallbladder meridian tends to contain excess qi. From a TCM perspective the related syndromes of addiction to alcohol or other substances can be defined as follows:

• liver qi stagnation (swellings, lumps, distended abdomen and chest, tension, thyroid problems, repressed emotions, frustration, anger, impatience), which over time leads to liver heat (red face, eyes, and tongue, insomnia, splitting headaches, constipation, aggression, violence), liver wind (moving or fluctuating pain, pulsating headache, spasms, cramps, dizziness, manic/depression) and/or deficient liver yin (dry eyes, weak vision, night blindness, dry brittle nails, and other general deficient yin signs).

• kidney-adrenal stress, resulting in deficient kidney yin (ringing in the ears, dry throat, dizziness, low backache, weak legs, red tongue, insecurity, agitation), deficient kidney yang (cold extremities, aversion to cold, weak knees and low back, frequent urination, edema, enlarged, pale tongue, lack of will power), and deficient jing (poor physical and/or mental development, inadequate brain function, early senility, impotence, dizziness, loose teeth, loss of head hair). Many drug “highs” consume massive amounts of jing essence.

• heart-mind spirit lack of balance (lack of mental focus, forgetfulness, poor sleep patterns, mental illness, speech problems, and agitation during de toxification).

• general qi deficiency (frailty, weakness, faint voice and shallow breath, little or no tongue coating, lack of motivation) and blood deficiency (pale lips, nail beds, tongue, and complexion; thinness; thin, dry hair; spots in the field of vision; irregular menstruation).

One of the primary aims in addiction work is a smooth, obstruction-releasing qi flow throughout the body-mind so that intoxicants are no longer craved. This entails clearing the liver, which directs smooth qi flow in general. Imbedded in the liver are chemical residues representing the life history of unresolved problems, denials, resentments, and repressions that have been masked by alcohol?

In addition to performing needling treatment, acupuncturists may employ other methods such as moxibustion, herbal remedies, diet and therapeutic massage.

Acupuncture has shown potential as an effective treatment for addictions, according to the studies performed in last two decades in China, Europe and North America. They found that acupuncture may reduce the desire to drink alcohol and the lower the number of admissions to alcohol detoxification centers, other studies have failed to duplicate these findings. Interestingly however, many addiction programs that currently offer acupuncture report that people appear to “like acupuncture” and, in many cases, want to continue with their detox program for longer periods of time when acupuncture is provided as a treatment option. This is very important since attendance is essential for the success of treatment.

Following Up

After initial care, medical and/or health care follow-up should continue for 6 to 12 months.

Recommendations

• Avoid all alcohol. Total abstinence is a mandatory requirement for taking back the control over your life and your health. You cannot begin drinking again and expect to maintain control over it even after years of sobriety. As little as a sip of any drink containing alcohol can renew the drinking pattern. You must choose not to drink.

• Seek help from a person or persons knowledgeable about this disorder. Alcoholics Anonymous has been doing wonderful work for many years in helping alcoholics achieve and maintain sobriety. Al-Anon is a similar group that pro vides support for the friends and families of alcoholics. The assistance and counseling services of these groups are avail able in nearly every city and town nationwide. Look in your local telephone directory for the group nearest you, or call your local mental health association for information.

• If possible, consult a nutritionally oriented physician or a TCM practitioner to determine your specific nutritional needs.

• Go on a ten-day live juice and cleansing fast to remove toxins from the body quickly.

• Eat a nutrient-dense diet of fresh whole foods, organically grown if possible, and follow the nutritional supplement program outlined above. Your primary foods should be raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and legumes.

• Avoid saturated fats and fried foods, which put stress on the liver. For essential fatty acids, use primrose oil supplements plus small amounts of cold-pressed organic vegetable oils.

• Do not consume refined sugar or anything that contains it. Alcoholics often have disorders of sugar metabolism.

• Get plenty of rest, especially in the early weeks of recovery, to allow your body to cleanse and repair itself.

• Avoid people, things, and places that are associated with drinking. Make new friendships with people who do not drink. Taking up a hobby, becoming involved in sports, and exercising (including Yoga, Tai-chi, Qi-Gong) or promote self-esteem and provide a productive outlet for energy.

• As much as possible, avoid stress. Cultivate patience, meditate, pray; this will be needed for the long, slow road to recovery.

• Do not take any drugs except for those prescribed by your physician.

• If you suspect that someone you know may be abusing alcohol, encourage the person to seek professional care.

ANNEX 1 – ‘Alcohol worse for female brains’

Pictures of the brains of more than 150 volunteers revealed how women come to more harm and quicker than men when they drink heavily.

Scientists have suspected for some time that men might be more resilient to booze than women. The German research gives visible evidence of this. The University of Heidelberg team published their findings in Alcoholism.

In the study, around half of the volunteers were alcoholics. All of the volunteers had brain scans at the start and end of the six week study. Those who were alcoholic were helped to “dry out” during the six weeks.

When the researchers analyzed the brain scan results they found obvious evidence of brain damage among the heavy drinkers.

The drinkers had smaller brains, due to loss or atrophy, than the controls.

Brain loss

Women who were heavy drinkers lost the same amount of brain volume as the drinking men, but over a much shorter period of alcohol dependence.

Lead author Professor Karl Mann said although men generally drink more alcohol, women probably develop alcohol dependence and adverse consequences more readily.

Other alcohol-related disorders, such as heart problems, depression and liver disease, also occurred earlier in women than men, he said:

“Women typically start drinking later in life, consume less…and one could reason that women are less affected by alcohol. But there is evidence for a faster progress of the events leading to dependence among female alcoholics and an earlier onset of adverse consequences of alcoholism. This suggests that women may be more vulnerable to chronic alcohol consumption.”

For these reasons, he said it was even more important to spot and treat alcohol abuse early in women.

A spokesman from the Institute of Alcohol Studies said: “This study supports previous findings that women experience much alcohol-related harm before men at the same level of drinking. These results are particularly concerning given the rising alcohol consumption in UK women, and the increased risk of alcohol dependence that goes with it. This worryingly suggests that alcohol-related damage experienced by women in the UK is set to increase rapidly in the coming years.”

Baldness is a dreaded word not because it is a deadly disease but because it significantly changes the image of the person going bald. Just as hair gives beauty to a person, baldness gives the opposite effect. Although not everyone may express their anxiety over baldness, statistics shows that men spend large amounts of money just to fight baldness. It clearly depicts that baldness can be an image disturbance and needs to be dealt with for those who are concern with how one looks.

Baldness is more common to man rather than women. In fact, Androgenic alopecia or male baldness is the most common. It is caused by the DHT sex hormone in men that result to a progressive hair loss although the extent of this is different among male individuals. Most male baldness occurs during the age of 50’s. Male baldness has two common forms, the alopecia areata and the alopecia totalis. The former is indicated by hair loss on scalps, beards and eyebrows which are seen as patches while the latter indicates a total baldness on the head. Another extreme case on male baldness is the alopecia universalis which result to total baldness in the body. Although male baldness is common as it is, women are also prone to baldness which has also its causes.

Aside from these natural causes of baldness, there are also baldness caused by medical conditions such as one that undergone chemotherapy due to cancer, severe fever, ringworm in the scalp, various mycotic infections and other hormonal changes after pregnancy such as hypothyroidism. The use of hair products that are harmful to hair may also result to baldness.

Fortunately, there are products and technologies that help in the baldness treatment. These bald treatments vary from surgery, pills, applications or supplements. One of which is the newly discovered Propecia, a prescription drug recommended by the doctor after undergoing various medical evaluation to the patient. Propecia is taken orally and may have various side effects so caution is advised. It is limited to those patients with no medical problems. Propecia has a generic name finasteride and is used commonly for treatment of baldness. Just like any other prescription drugs, Propecia has several contraindications that need to be noted.

Another is herbal medicine such as saw palmetto. Although this has not been necessarily approved by the FDA, saw palmetto is found to have an effect on the DHT by converting testosterone to DHT thereby preventing hair loss. Saw palmetto is a bushy plant found in southern US and has been initially used to cure other diseases such as UTI and cancer. It was also recommended for the treatment of respiratory and reproductive although later, saw palmetto is best known to cure hair loss and prostate enlargements.

Applications such as Rogaine are also recommended for baldness treatment. Such products promote hair growth when applied to areas that are balding and needs to be used continually until the desired growth of hair is met.

Aside from this, surgery is also possible for baldness such as hair transplant and laser therapy, both initiating hair growth on affected areas.

Before you can decide on the best acne treatments you need to understand what acne is. The pores of your skin are openings to canals called follicles, each of which has a strand of hair and an oil gland.

The oil glands help to lubricate the skin and the removal of old skin cells. Production of excess oil by the glands leads to blockage of the pores, which is turn collect bacteria and dirt. Acne is caused when the pores of the skin get clogged. The blockage is known as a plug. The best acne treatments work on clearing these blockages.

Symptoms of Acne

The plug or the blockage has a head which can be a blackhead or whitehead. When those rupture they allow the material inside, which includes oil and bacteria, to spread around the surrounding area, causing inflammations. When the inflammations are deep the pimples become enlarged and form angry, painful cysts. The best acne treatments aim to cure the cause and eliminate the symptoms.

Who is prone?

Teenagers are more prone to acne since they are at the age when they experience hormonal changes which in turn stimulate the production of oil by the glands. This is not to say that adults do not get blemishes and pimples. However, 75% of teenagers are affected by outbreaks at some stage, to some extent and look for the best solutions. The depression and anxiety that result from the onset of acne can be difficult to handle and hence acne treatment is imperative at an early stage.

Other causes

It is often genetic Hormonal changes brought on by stress, menstruation, pregnancy or birth control pills Excessive sweating caused by high humidity Drugs such as testosterone, estrogen or steroids Hair products or cosmetics that are greasy or oily

The best acne treatments always recommend thorough cleansing of the skin to begin with. This needs to be followed by a topical treatment such as the application of an acne face toner to deep clean and tone the skin. An anti acne mask can remove toxins from the skin and helps to regulate the production of oil in the skin.

Additionally, treatment should be consistent and followed for at least six to eight weeks to ensure that they have long-term benefits. This will result in the prevention of new lesions being formed and aid in the removal of acne scars.

Are you looking for a natural fertility treatment that can enhance you chances of having a baby? If the answer is in the affirmative, you can go in for In Vitro Fertilization complemented with acupuncture and increase your chances of getting pregnant.

According to many researches done over years and across continents, it has been discovered that women who underwent in vitro fertilization or IVF treatment process and complemented the embryo transfer process with acupuncture, the chances of pregnancy in these case increased by 65 per cent as compared to those who did not take any additional treatment. You can also be one among those successful couples by taking up the IVF treatment coupled with acupuncture.

The In Vitro Fertility technique increases the numbers of eggs produced such that at least one of the eggs will be successfully fertilized instead of aiming to affect the quality of the egg. There are a large number of physiological effects that contribute to the effectiveness of acupuncture when used with infertility treatment. In addition, the ancient Chinese discipline of acupuncture increases blood flow to the uterus thus making the Ivf Treatment a success.

Another advantage of using acupuncture is that it reduces stress. Infertility causes stress amongst a lot of couples. It even strains their relationships to a great extend. Stress reduction with the use of acupuncture, therefore, helps a great deal in improving the chances of getting pregnant. Acupuncture also helps a lot in reducing anxiety and stress with its sympathoinhibitory effect. It provides considerable amount of stress reduction in women who are undergoing infertility treatment. This is all the more effective for women who are taking infertility treatment medicines prescribed by their doctors because the side effects of anti-depressant drugs on infertility treatment are usually unknown.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a type of anxiety disorder in which a person has unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead him to engage in repetitive behaviors (compulsions). A person affected with OCD may realize that his obsessions are not reasonable and may try to ignore or stop them, but he is driven to perform compulsive acts in an effort to ease his distress. OCD usually centers on themes which lead to ritualistic behaviour that ultimately affects the person’s life. Genetics, environmental factors and reduced levels of brain neuro-transmitters are believed to cause OCD. A family history, stressful life events and pregnancy are believed to be risk factors for OCD.

Here are a few examples of OCD rituals:

Repeatedly checking that a door has been locked

Repeating certain words to reduce anxiety

Checking email every few minutes

Excessive hand washing

Ensuring that items on a desk top are in a precise configuration

According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, 3.3 million people in the United States are living with O.C.D. People who develop obsessive compulsive disorder will usually start showing symptoms before they turn 40. In boys, symptoms typically appear between the ages of 6 and 15. This condition most often affects girls in adulthood during their twenties.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that there is always a number of helpful treatments for OCD there. I’m going to share some important tips that can help you get a head start on treating panic attacks.

Prescription drug therapy combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most common form of treatment for OCD. Early diagnosis is crucial to a successful treatment outcome. Treatment is most successful when OCD isn’t combined with different psychiatric or emotional disorders.

Naturalize your Obsessive Thoughts: Don’t let your thoughts and fear control you. If you start letting them control your life you will suffer from it for the rest of your life. Believe in yourself and build up a confidence that you can fight this syndrome.

Natural treatment for OCD has less side effects than chemical based drugs, and many of the native remedies and herbals has been used to cure anxiety panic attacks and OCD related problems for hundreds of years by the native people around the world.

Inositol: A naturally occurring sugar is capable of altering serotonin levels.

St. John’s Wort: Calm the body and mind, and depression effectively.

Passionflower: Herb that has sedative effects and helps in relaxation

<!– @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>

Let me tell you an undeniable truth.

Hyperthyroidism is a circumstance caused by the effects of overly more thyroid hormone on tissues of the system. Hyperthyroidism is causing an overactive altitude increase and increased velocity of all the system’s organs and intestines. The circumstance sometimes surfaces after a transmission or pregnancy. The trouble is more popular among women and in folk with a household story of hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxicosis occurs when the thyroid releases overly many of its hormones over a brief (intense) or lengthy (chronic) period of moment. Many diseases and conditions can induce this trouble.

Some are including graves disease , non-cancerous growths of the thyroid gland or pituitary gland , tumors of the testes or ovaries , inflammation of the thyroid payable to viral infections or new causes and ingestion of undue iodine. Graves’ disease causes almost hyperthyroidism. In Graves’ disease, the system’s normal defense structure attacks the thyroid gland. The thyroid fights backwards by making overly more thyroid hormone. Graves disease accounts for 85 % 0f all cases of hyperthyroidism. Sign and symptoms of Hyperthyroidism include weight departure ,anxiety, intolerance to ignite, fatigue, failing and hyperactivity.

Others symptoms such as, irritability, apathy, depression, polyuria, polydipsia, and sweating. Treatment varies depending on the cause of the condition and the severity of symptoms. The major and generally accepted modalities for treatment of hyperthyroidism in humans involve initial temporary use of suppressive thyrostatics medication, and possibly later use of permanent surgical or radioisotope therapy. Radioactive iodine is the most widely recommended permanent treatment of hyperthyroidism. Radioactive iodine treatment takes advantage of the fact that thyroid cells are the only cells in the body which have the ability to absorb iodine.

Beta-blockers like propranolol are used to treat some of the symptoms including rapid heart rate, sweating, and anxiety until the hyperthyroidism can be controlled. Try to drink 6 to 8 large glasses of liquid, such as water, juices, and milk, each day. Avoid or limit coffee, tea, soda, and other caffeinated beverages. Caffeine, like thyroid hormone, can cause anxiety. Antithyroid medicine works best if your symptoms are mild. These pills do not damage your thyroid gland. Eye muscle surgery may help correct double vision by cutting the affected muscle from the eyeball and reattaching it farther back.

For those people who are reluctant to rely on medical treatment or prescription drugs for their sleeping problems, they could go for insomnia herbal treatment. There are numerous herbal remedies for those who suffer from insomnia. However, despite the fact that many of these treatments are herbal, this does not necessarily mean that the herbs can be taken in large amounts, or any time he or she wants to. Sure, there are some herbal treatments for insomnia that have no adverse side-effects, but some herbal treatments can be hazardous when abused or consumed improperly. This goes to show that despite the name, not everything is completely safe. Certain precautions should be taken, and it is best to consult a doctor first, especially when the insomnia is severe.

Avena Sativa, an insomnia herbal treatment, is extremely safe. It is more commonly known as oats, and it is basically the same oats sold as oatmeal or rolled oats. Unless consumed as extracts or tincture, women should not use it during pregnancy or when breast feeding their child. Besides that, Avena Sativa has no adverse side effects. Oats helps people sleep by containing a mild sedative. Plus, oats are rich in vitamins and minerals (such as vitamin B and fiber). California Poppy, a perennial herb, does not contain any opium like its close relative. It does, however, have mild opiate effects. It aids people by relaxing the body, easing off anxiety and stress. It can have adverse effects when taken in large quantities by children or senior citizens. Celery seed is another insomnia herbal treatment that relieves a person from nervousness and anxiety. Celery stalks are more commonly recognized, but it is the seeds that have potent effects. Consumption of the seed, however, can make a person lose potassium, so replenishing the body with it is vital. If intake of this seed causes diarrhea or stomach pains, intake should be stopped.

Chamomile is another good herbal treatment that can give a lethargic effect. In fact, its flowers are even used as tranquilizer. It is also readily available in tea form. Hops is also considered as a sedative, and this is the same herb that gives a bitter taste to beer. People who suffer from depression are not advised to consume hops. Kava is another herb that can help people fall asleep, and it has a similar effect as alcohol. Besides being a sedative, it is also considered as an anti-depressant, although it can harm the liver. Lemon balm, usually consumed as a tea, is another tranquilizer-like sedative. It can also work as bath salts. People using thyroid medication should not use lemon balm.

Other herbs include Motherwort, Passion Flower, St. John Wort, Skullcap, Valerian, Wild Cherry and Yarrow. People who wish to consume any of these should research about the herbs first, or consult a doctor. Pregnant and breast-feeding women are not allowed to consume nearly all of these herbs because it can have adverse effects on their child’s wellbeing. Also, no one herb is applicable for all people, so there is a chance that certain herbal treatments might not work.

There are several options for infertility treatments besides the use of drugs and artificial insemination. Firstly, there is the natural approach. Traditional Chinese Medicine and herb treatment have proven effective in some cases. Lastly, there is acupuncture treatment.

Natural Treatments for Infertility

Natural treatments for infertility have worked well for some. There are many different factors leading to infertility. By making changes to tackle those infertility factors is the simplest form of natural treatments for infertility. Start by eliminating the bad habits that could be causing your infertility. Enhance your health by having a good diet and nutritional supplements where necessary. This will also enhance your chance of conception. The result for natural treatments for infertility will vary depending on the problems present.

Individualised Natural Treatments

You will need to understand that the result for natural treatments for infertility will take time to show. It may be a few months before the result is apparent. The very first things you should do are to eliminate any caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco from your body. Stay clear from non-organic foods as they may cause hormonal imbalance. You will need a healthy and balanced diet. Making these changes may be all you need to increase the chance of conception.

You should consider adding folic acid, zinc, selenium, fatty acids, vitamin E, vitamin A, and vitamin c to your daily diet. You can get these if you are taking prenatal vitamins. For men, L-Carnitine tablets are great natural treatments for infertility. It is an amino acid that helps the body to produce good quality sperm. It will help to increase the sperm count and also to give the sperm greater motility.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Traditional Chinese medicine infertility treatment works on the basis that a mixture of herbs and acupuncture can help to restore the body disharmony, which causes infertility.

Before starting TCM for infertility treatments, you should consult a medical doctor. If the doctor can determine that the cause of infertility is due to structural problem, you will probably not benefit from the traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture treatment sought to address the kidney, spleen, and liver. These three organs directly affect the reproductive organs, hence, TCM treatment focus on them.

TCM enhances result by using herbal medicines. The treatment takes into consideration any problems that may exist. If there is disharmony, the appropriate herbs will be used to correct the condition. Herbs that will help in conception can also used in unison. Herbs to curb stress and anxiety are also added to boost the chances for success.

TCM treatment can improve the chances of pregnancy. However, it is also important to continue with Western medical treatments. TCM treatments may produce results but using all avenues for treatment will increases the chances of pregnancy.

Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture has been used for centuries by the Chinese as a healing tool. Acupuncture works on the theory that energy flow or blood pressure can be regulated by stimulating the central nervous system. This process releases neurotransmitters and neurohormones, which help the body to heal. Acupuncture also releases endorphins which will block pain and give the body a sense of wellness. Acupuncture for infertility is not painful at all. You may feel a little tingling sensation at the treatment spot and you may experience slight bruising.

Acupuncture for infertility works on the theory that channels of energy run through the different parts of the body and the body surface. When these channels are blocked for whatever reason, health problem will occur. The needles in acupuncture for infertility help to open these blockages. The needles are used to stimulate the various nerves and cause them to release chemicals which influence the muscle, brain, and spinal cord. This allows the body to heal itself.

Acupuncture for infertility works for those who have a functional reason for infertility. If you have infertility caused by a physical problem such as damaged reproductive organs, it may not be effective. The effects should be apparent after a few visits to the acupuncturist if the treatment is indeed something that can help you. To enhance the effectiveness of acupuncture, you may also want to combine with herbal remedies as well. They are complementary treatment methods. Generally, one or two sessions per week of acupuncture is necessary for good results.

It is still not known what causes anxiety disorders. Many experts from different disciplines do not agree on whether the causes are genetical or behavioural. Physiological researchers suspect a chemical imbalance in the brain is present in sufferers of anxiety attacks. However, whether this chemical imbalance is the cause of the attacks or a result of them.

A genetic pre-disposition has been noted, as anxiety orders have been found to run in families. To the contrary this could be down to environmental reasons rather than genetic ones. Behaviourists believe the condition stems from behaviours which have been learnt, psycho-analysts favour the view that the condition is as a result of unresolved issues in the past.

What is certain is that every case is different, it could be a combination of some or all of the above the cases. Anxiety attacks are very personal and unique to each sufferer. Just as the symptoms are different, so are the causes and the treatment of anxiety. An anxiety attacks disorder occurs when the attacks are frequent and disruptive of the persons life. Anxiety attack disorders are thought to develop from previous anxiety attacks which have not been successfully managed.

Panic attacks come around as the result of an accumulation of life stress or due to an extremely stressful life event. Such events are most commonly the death of a loved one, major trauma or illness, pregnancy, childbirth, financial problems, job loss/unemployment or divorce. Where an anxiety attack disorder is due to stress that has built up over a period of time, the first attack could seem to appear as if from nowhere, even whilst watching TV. As there is no visible connection between the cause and result for this type of sufferer, an even greater fear of these unexpected panic attacks causes subsequent attacks.

Panic attacks themselves can be part of another disorder. For example, someone with asthma may have a panic attacks due to feelings of fear connected with breathlessness. Anxiety attacks which are primary conditions must be resolved or they run the risk of turning into an anxiety disorder.

We all feel some level of anxiety sometimes. It is, after all, a normal human emotion. However, when this feeling of anxiety begins to disturb our routines and way of life then it is a problem which needs to be addressed. Anxiety attacks and disorders are experienced by many different people at different stages in peoples lives. It is common and many people report having an anxiety attack at some point. It is estimated that one in every 75 people suffer from anxiety attacks. So if you are a sufferer, you are not alone. Despite this fact, many people wait as long as 18 months to seek treatment for anxiety. Moreover, many cases go completely unreported.

Seeing a therapist is the best anxiety cure and the only anxiety disorder treatment to cure your anxiety long-term. A therapist will help you identify the problem and treat your anxiety. Many people do not seek professional help because of the stigma and connection to mental health problems. However, anxiety attacks are common and should not be kept secret.
