Insomnia in pregnancy is a common phenomenon, debilitating around 78% of pregnant women. Although the unborn child is out of harm’s way, insomnia in pregnancy can cause unimaginable discomfort for the soon-to-be mommy. It’ll be nine eternities, er, months before you can return to your normal sleeping patterns, so you might as well try to make the most of your predicament.
Perhaps the anxiety and excitement at giving birth to a baby is keeping you from much-needed zzz’s, unlike before when you went off to dreamland as soon as your head hit the pillow. Because of some physical and hormonal shifts you will be experiencing, you can expect your sleep to be interrupted by back pains, discomfort as your abdomen grows, increased urinary frequency, heartburn, and even vivid dreams. Aside from the usual morning sickness, you will also have to contend with headaches, dizziness, nervousness, and irritability.

This question is for pregnant women with anxiety disorders. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and I am currently TTC#1. I wondered if any of you noticed a change, whether good or bad, in your anxiety symptoms before you found out you were pregnant, or in early pregnancy.

I’m not on any medication and as delivery comes closer and closer my anxiety increases. Anyone else have an anxiety problem during pregnancy? How did you do during labor? Did it effect your heart rate, blood pressure, or anything else? How did your doctor react to it?

Im pregnant with my second child (girl) and with this pregnancy I have been moody and keep having what I would call mild panic attacks over things that other people think are minor. Normally I am a really level headed girl. Is it the horomones or what, I really feel crippled by this somedays like I cant get the particular issue out of my head. Do you think it will go away after the pregnancy? Somdays I feel like Im doing such a crappy job with my toddler what in the world am I going to do with two. Help any opinons. PS I will mention it to my Dr at the appointment next week but for now Im just asking for thoughts.

I’m 32 weeks w/ baby #1. I have GAD (general anxiety disorder) and was on meds for it 2 yrs ago then tried a couple different kinds late last year (unsuccessfully, so I stopped- didn’t like them/didn’t help like the pills I had a couple yrs ago). So I’m pregnant now and my anxiety seems to have worsened and I don’t want to take meds while still carrying… Yes, anxiety comes w/ pregnancy but it’s worse with GAD and really bothering me. I’m wondering about tips to manage my anxiety (no attacks, just small episodes that are coming more frequently) and ways to cope or settle down. Any input from experience?
