1. Rest whenever you canFinding time to relax seems simple, but sometimes very difficult. However, not only is good for you, but is great for the baby, so do not feel guilty for taking the time to “do nothing”.

While you’re at work, trying to find a place where you can relax during lunch and put your legs up and, when you get home, remove some housework. Although many of us like having the house shining, now is the time to be a perfectionist. If you already have children it is more difficult to find time to relax, but you could ask your partner, a friend or the grandparents to care for them one evening from time to time so you can enjoy a well deserved rest.

2. Yoga for pregnancyYoga for pregnancy keeps the body flexible and teaches many relaxation techniques. Practice will help during pregnancy and childbirth. If you are prone to suffer from anxiety or panic attacks, breathing techniques used by practicing yoga can also reassure you.

Find out some excellent benefits of yoga in pregnancy in the author’s bio below.

3. Share your concernsIf you spend sleepless nights wondering if your baby will be born healthy or who will care when you get back to work, you’re not alone. Talking about your concerns, whether with your partner, your mother or a friend who already have children, will help a lot. Other women at the same stage of pregnancy as you, maybe your class who attend childbirth preparation, probably share your anxieties. Talk to them, because they can support each other. And do not forget to use the class teacher, your doctor or midwife, they can also reassure you.

4. Relaxation TechniquesGetting a massage during pregnancy is a great way to relax. There are therapists who specialize in massage for pregnant women. You can find them in the Yellow Pages telephone directory.

The techniques of meditation and positive visualization are also useful. Meditation is a way to relax by concentrating on a point of mental focus or your own breathing. Positive visualization is a technique to overcome anxieties by creating a mental image of a scene reassuring. You can search your local library or on the Internet for some books that teach you to relax as there are more than plenty alternatives out there. There are also tapes or disks to induce relaxation, which come very cheap (you can find on the Internet or in a good bookstore). Choose a time that you will not have any interruptions and meditates for 20 minutes at least.

5. Get ready for deliveryPerhaps you are suffering from thinking about childbirth and how to endure pain, or how your partner reacts. If you learn as much as you can in advance you will feel much more secure. You can learn a lot about all the stages of labor, as well as physical and emotional aspects that mark each stage by enrolling in a class of childbirth, reading books and magazines. If you’re going to have the baby in a hospital, it will also help you to visit the maternity area and enter the rooms where women are in labor.

For some women the fear of childbirth becomes so overwhelming that they even rather have a caesarean section. The terror part is called “tocofobia”. If you feel overwhelmed by fear, talk to your doctor or midwife. Studies indicate that with proper support, you can overcome fear.

6. Changes in the relationship with your partnerSometimes pregnancy can create tensions between partners, for example, if you’re too tired to be intimate, if your husband can not understand the sudden changes of mood hormones that affect you, or the new life that lies ahead – that means less time for the couple and costs – are causing anxiety. Try to share your concerns with your partner so you can face and overcome together.

7. Strategies to facilitate the journey to workIf you work, you may have planned to continue doing so until near the due date to spend more time with your baby once he is born. But the round trip to work can become a source of stress, the greater the more it grows your tummy.

If you are using public transportation, ask your boss if you can start and end the workday earlier or later to avoid rush hours. If your work is done primarily by computer, maybe you can ask permission to do so from the house one day a week.

When traveling by bus or subway, try sitting. If the bus is full and no one offered a seat, ask. Go stagger and expose yourself to a fall is not good when you’re pregnant. Most people willingly gives way to a pregnant woman, but sometimes you have to remind them.

8. Money worriesThere is no doubt that having a baby affects finances. If you’re worried about how to cope with the extra expenses, make a list of items you need in order of priority and decide who you can ask to get them from family and friends. There’s oftentimes no need to buy everything, especially things that are only used a couple of months as a bassinet or small crib.

Make sure that you will receive all the money that suits you during maternity leave. You can talk to the person responsible for Human Resources in your company for advice.

9. Diet and ExerciseThere are some foods that can help balance the hormones that are triggered in times of stress. Foods containing B vitamins, such as yeast extract, bread and rice grain, increase the levels of the hormone serotonin, which is anti-stress.

Exercise also reduces stress, and continues to do so, provided it is a safe activity. If you have doubts, ask your doctor if it is. If you go to a gym class, inform the teacher you’re pregnant to adapt the exercises in a safe way for you and your baby.

Swimming is ideal exercise during pregnancy, because it keeps you flexible and healthy, but does not damage joints. Special aerobics classes for pregnant women are also a fun way to stay in shape.

When you are at work, get up and walk from time to time if your job requires you to spend much time sitting, and lunch out is a breath of fresh air, if only ten minutes.

10. IndulgeThere is nothing more relaxing than laughing, so take advantage of any opportunity to drop some good laughs. Did they just release a good comedy? Then go to the movies with some friends. Your nerves will dissipate with the first laugh.

A weekend road trip with your partner or a few hours at a spa that offers specific treatments for pregnant women are perfect antidotes to stress.

Pregnancy is also the perfect time to indulge from time to time with little luxuries you would normally not allow. For example, when the belly grows so large that it almost cost you to touch your feet, treat yourself to a pedicure.

Indulge! You deserve it.

acid and reflux also known as gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when the sphincter that is positioned at the bottom of the esophagus stops functioning properly. This will allow food in the stomach to come back up through the sphincter into the esophagus and sometimes even into the mouth resulting in a painful heartburn (a burning sensation in the chest and throat) or even permanent damage to the esophagus if no proper acid and reflux treatment is sought. As remarkable as it may sound there are times when heartburn symptoms are very hard to distinguish from those of a heart attack. When heartburn is particularly severe a person experiencing heartburn symptoms may be filled with panic thinking that the chest pain is already something serious. On the other hand mild heart attacks sometimes trigger no more than a sensation of mild pain or pressure in the general area of the chest.

I hate having panic attacks.
I went to my ob recently, and he told me that since i’m in my 2nd trimester now, xanax, or adovan would be safe to take now. he said i’m past the part of the pregnancy that they would cause any birth defects. anyone been on either one of these in the 2nd or 3rd trimester.

As with everything you choose to use during your pregnancy, aromatherapy should be approached with caution. Prior to using any guides you have found online, consult your midwife or OB to ensure the information you have read is safe to follow during your particular pregnancy.

It is advised that you avoid the use of essential oils altogether during your first trimester. Those first essential twelve weeks are vital for foetal development. Further in to your pregnancy there are certain oils that can help relieve some common pregnancy ailments. Aromatherapy can be used help alleviate morning sickness, constipation, anxiety, depression and fatigue, amongst many other common pregnancy ailments.

Which oils are recommended after the first trimester?

Lavendar Oil This can be used to relieve headaches, stress, nervous tension and restlessness. If you are having trouble sleeping, try adding 5 drops of lavendar oil to a bath and soaking in it before bed time.

Mandarin OilThis has anti-septic properties and can be used to relieve colds, coughs and breathing problems. It can also be used to relieve cramp and digestive track problems.

Ylang YlangGreat for relieving you of restlessness, anxiety and depression. It can provide an ‘uplifting feeling’.

Neroli OilCan relieve chronic anxiety, depression, fear shock and stress. Has been known to be beneficial to the digestive tract. Can help relieve diarrhea. Can be used for insomnia, has a sedative effect. Is helpful for treating depression, anxiety and heart palpatations.

Oils that must be avoided during pregnancy at all costs:

>marjoram

>jasmine

>basil

>rosemary

>clary sage (can be used during labour)

>melissa

>thyme

>juniper

>rose damascena (until the 3rd trimester, if you’re healthy).

It is not ethical to conduct studies regarding the safety of aromatherapy on pregnant women, so the above oils have been marked as dangerous for use during pregnancy based on their known qualities. They are all known to stimulate menstruation, so it is best to err on the side of caution and opt for a safer oil.

How can I use aromatherapy during my pregnancy?

One of the best ways to use aromatherapy during your pregnancy is to add 5-6 drops of your chosen essential oil to your bath. Once you have added the oil, mix it in to the bath well and then sink in. Alternatively, you can add three drops of your essential oil to a bowl of warm water and soak a flannel in it. Rinse your flannel well and apply to your forehead.

So long as you avoid ‘dangerous’ essential oils and consult with a medical professional, there is no reason for you to avoid aromatherapy altogether during your pregnancy.

Article by Isabel De Los Rios

If you are watching your weight after you conceive, you are probably wondering not only what to eat during pregnancy, but how to satisfy your sweet tooth. Obviously you are swearing off sugar if you want to keep your weight within the recommended weight gain range (between 20 and 30 pounds over the course of your pregnancy). So you may think that an acceptable way to keep your weight in check and indulge your cravings for sweets is to use an artificial sweetener.

But stop right there. Artificial sweeteners such as sucralose, saccharine, and aspartame are chemical substances that pose a range of troubling problems to both mother and child. They should be completely eliminated from your diet for pregnancy. Just what can these seemingly-innocent substances do? Let’s delve further into the question of artificial sweeteners.

Sucralose (Splenda)

Sucralose, also marketed under the name Splenda, is one of the newest sugar substitutes on the market, and as such, there is no long-term research available on its effects on the human body. Sucralose is a chlorinated sucrose derivative and may be akin to ingesting small amounts of chlorinated pesticide. It cannot be completely broken down in our digestive tracts. Until more long-term research has been performed, we won’t know its exact effects on our bodies.

Already, research performed on laboratory animals has given us some troubling insight into what Splenda can do. Studies have shown 40% shrinkage in the thymus glands as well as enlarged liver and kidneys. As your baby grows and develops within you, there is no need to subject him or her to the potentially dangerous health issues that sucralose use could cause.

Saccharine (Sweet N Low)

Saccharine is one of the older sugar substitutes on the market

Pregnancy is supposed to be a time of joy and happiness for women. It is something that most women who haven’t yet experienced it, look forward to with awe – some with dread. It is an experience that cannot be aptly described using words; it simply should be experienced to understand it. Unfortunately it also comes with more than its fair share of travails. One of those travails happen to be pregnancy constipation – an uncomfortable, and often time, unbearable condition that plagues many pregnant women in the world today. This article will look at three natural ways to remedy pregnancy constipation beginning today…

1. Increase Your Ingestion Of Fibre…Food that contain high quantities of fibre are great to eat during your pregnancy. An example of such a snack would be oatmeal cookies. These are very effective in the eradication of constipation. In fact oatmeal cookies have also been known to help alleviate pregnancy anxiety and panic attacks. So, instead of eating all that fast “junk” food, or all those funky “movie snack”, go for foods that are rich in nutrients like these. You should also form the habit of taking a lot of fruits too like; apples, bananas and so on. While this may sound simple to some, you must realize that as humans we are more prone to defaulting on the simple stuff.

2. Throw Out The Grease…You want to ensure that you keep away from greasy foods. These include, but are not limited to, the following; foods that include fat and foods that are fried. The reason why you should avoid them is due to the fact that they take quite a long while to digest which in turn causes those nasty pregnancy constipations.

3. Increase The H2O…Water is and ought to be your best pal right now. It is arguably the most natural cure for constipation out there. You should endeavor to make it a point of conscious duty to increase your daily intake of water. Water helps with regularity. You must have it at the forefront of your mind that the major cause of pregnancy constipation is dehydration, and water is the most effective way to avoid dehydration. Normally a grown adult ought to drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily; the uncommon knowledge is that pregnant women are supposed to drink more than that volume. Yes.

Question by Mommy of 3 boys : Are panic attacks harmful during pregnancy?
I don’t have a long history of panic attacks but last year, LONG before I got pregnant, I had a few panic attacks, and I saw my Doc about them, and bc I scored high on the depression, she prescribed antidepressants for me. Well, I was doing fine after a while, so she took me off them, and I said I was ready.. then I got pregnant. I will NOT take drugs when I’m pregnant. Now, I feel like I have been having small panic attacks (or anxiety attacks, Idk what’s the difference?). Then last night I actually had a bad one in my sleep, maybe because of the dream I had, but I woke up breathing very hard and my heart was pounding. I wonder if this can cause the baby harm?

Best answer:

Answer by Pregnantwiv#2
I have generalized anxiety disorder and have panic attacks but my anxiety is always there, I am not on medication and have had this for 2 years, I am 14 weeks pregnant and even though I have anxiety I am a low risk pregnancy, so no anxiety will not harm your baby or you.

Many expectant mothers experience panic attacks. Pregnancy actually tends to make the symptoms more pronounced. The symptoms can be very scary and they tend to cause a lot of unneeded stress. Most future mothers tend to be overly cautious and a little nervous. These two emotions leave them very vulnerable to panic and anxiety.

Women typically start developing panic and anxiety at various stages of pregnancy. The symptoms are most likely to develop either during the initial stages of pregnancy or after their children are born. Then there are the women that have already suffered from panic… the ones with a preexisting condition. These women have a tendency to be negatively affected by panic during pregnancy. Hormonal changes are typically the culprit for these emotions and fears.

There is a blurry line between typical panic symptoms and pregnancy symptoms. Most pregnant women experience symptoms such as headaches, irritability, fatigue, and nausea. Unfortunately these are also symptoms of panic disorders. Pregnancy is extremely stressful… and for many women it’s also a scary time. Women have many emotions and they want everything to turn out okay… it’s at times like these when anxious thoughts can get the best of you… it’s at times like these that you’re the most vulnerable to panic attacks.

If you do nothing about them, panic and anxiety will linger…they do not go away. As you reach the later stages of pregnancy you’ll notice your panic attacks becoming more pronounced and causing more anxiety. Irrational fears of harming your child are very common at this point. Remember, panic will never hurt you… or your baby. Be careful in the later stages of pregnancy… panic and anxiety can get out of control and cause frequent stomach cramps. This type of cramping is often mistaken for contractions.

So what should you do if you have panic attacks during pregnancy?

Mothers that are prone to panic attacks during pregnancy should remain around family and friends and maintain a good support system. They should also have regular checkups… preferably on a weekly basis, as these tend to be reassuring. Fortunately for you panic disorders are fairly easy to control… you do not need to let them affect your lifestyle or your relationships with your family and friends.

You want to stay away from medications for panic attacks. Pregnancy is a good reason to find natural, safe, and effective treatments for panic attacks. There are many options for you that are much healthier and more effective than prescription medications.

Are you concerned that anxiety or panic attacks may be ruining your life?

I used to struggle with anxious thoughts and even had panic attacks alcohol problems.

Question by Mom to Johnny <3: How do I deal with anxiety during a pregnancy following a miscarriage?
I had a miscarriage 4 months ago and am now 6 weeks pregnant. I have a son and that pregnancy went perfectly so I know reasonably that I can and probably will have a healthy pregnancy. However, I can’t stop the anxious feeling that I will lose this baby too. I have been having really traumatic dreams that I am having a miscarriage. I feel like if I can’t get this anxiety out of my head that I may actually cause myself to have a miscarriage. Any help would be appreciated.

Best answer:

Answer by R.E.
You honestly just have to put it out of your mind. If you can’t you may need counseling. I am going through the same thing. I had 3 miscarriages and am now 33 weeks pregnant. If I allowed myself to stress all this while I would already be crazy.

When a woman finds out about her uterine fibroid during pregnancy, it becomes a cause of worry and anxiety. Pregnancy is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and amazing experiences in a woman’s world. Most of us plan well in advance and really look forward to the arrival of our new family member. This excitement will be dampened by worries that you may have about ensuring a safe and trouble free pregnancy.

Will fibroid tumor interfere with your pregnancy or the growth of your baby?

Majority of women who suffer from uterine fibroids will usually have a normal pregnancy and birth. Only for a small proportion, uterine fibroid during pregnancy can create complications. However it is purely a myth that fibroids grow rapidly during pregnancy. Actually in many women these uterine tumors shrink in size and return to their pre-pregnancy size immediately after delivery.

Fibroid tumors tend to push the nearby organs and often cause discomfort, pain and pressure. In case they happen to press a nerve it can result in leg pain also. In rare cases fibroid during pregnancy may start bleeding in the middle three months. Although painful, it will settle on its own without any specific uterine fibroid treatment. Many women mistake this bleeding for a miscarriage and get unduly alarmed.

In case your fibroid is located at the entrance of the cervix or the fallopian tube you may have difficulty in conceiving. Due to its location such fibroids block and prevent the sperm from reaching the egg.

Uterine fibroid during pregnancy can also result in premature birth of the baby. Provided the baby is not more than 2 or 3 weeks premature it is not a major concern. Another problem which can happen is where a fibroid during pregnancy lodges itself near the cervix causing an obstruction during delivery.

In case you are aware of your fibroid tumor and are still only planning a pregnancy it would be wise to first identify uterine fibroid treatment methods to shrink your fibroids naturally.

One such plan of uterine fibroid treatment is available online too. You can get hold of The Fibroid Cure at no risk to yourself whatsoever as it comes with a complete money back guarantee. It is available for immediate download- with no waiting time or shipping costs involved. It comes with a total money back guarantee and has already helped thousands of women worldwide to shrink fibroids naturally. It is one of the most popular and best selling fibroid cure plan that provides clear cut instructions on how to shrink fibroids naturally without drugs, surgery or any adverse side effects.

Do you want to get rid of Uterine Fibroids permanently? Do you know of a proven fibroids treatment that will start giving you relief within a few weeks of use? Although this may seem impossible it is 100% true.
I am an ex banker turned home maker. As soon as I reached the age of 40 I started experiencing a number of typical “women’s problems”. Like most others I too always resorted to modern medicines as my first line of treatment. Needless to say it was always accompanied by a number of side effects. Sick and tired of bearing up with the side effects I decided to do some research of my own. Thanks to internet I came across ideas and methods of natural cure for most of these typical women’s issues. I have tried these out personally and now am a strong believer in nature cure. Nature Cure is absolutely safe, has no side effects and offers permanent solution for most of our problems.

Depression medication during pregnancy is a tough call for doctors and patients alike because in most cases during pregnancy any and all medications should be avoided if possible. Of course there are always exceptions that require the mother to be on medication.

Depression and anxiety treatment is one such an exception. Lexapro is an anti-depressant drug that has been proven to successfully treat anxiety and depression. It is the newest addition to the family of drugs known as the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. Pregnancy medicine has a rating and it must be noted that Lexapro is a category “C” medicine. This means it should be given to pregnant women only if the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the newborn. This is the deciding factor for doctors when using any depression medication during pregnancy.

Possible risks associated with Lexapro: Studies have shown that babies born to mothers using Lexapro can develop a condition called persistent pulmonary hypertension. This condition is characterized by babies having abnormal blood flow to the lungs and heart and a low overall level of oxygen in the blood. This indicates a higher than normal occurrence of illness and deaths for babies with PPHN vs. those babies not afflicted. Lexapro also poses and increased risk of birth defects in babies. These are usually heart defects that can only be repaired surgically. Other side effects demonstrated by the babies who have been exposed to Lexapro include constant crying, feeding problems and insomnia.

In addition, babies whose mothers used Lexapro have also been seen to be hyperactive and to develop symptoms such as high-pitched crying, disturbed sleep and seizures. In some cases low birth weight is believed to be caused by Lexapro. The drugs use during the later part of pregnancy has resulted in fetal complications that required the mother to be hospitalized in some cases.

You are probably wondering with this long list of potentially dangerous side effects why would anyone use Lexapro? In reality the biggest risk for any fetus is it’s mother’s state of mind, be it caused by anxiety or depression. Premature delivery is often the result of depression and anxiety during pregnancy. Left untreated a mother’s depression and fragile mental state can cause direct harm to the unborn baby. So in cases where the mother’s depression must be treated Lexapro is the best alternative of the drugs available for treating depression medication during pregnancy.

Always consult your doctor with all of your health information. Let them know you are pregnant before starting any treatment for depression. If you were not pregnant when starting a depression medication program let all your doctors know when you become pregnant so adjustments can be made. For more information regarding depression visit http://www.depressiontreatmentsblog.com and learn more about depression medication during pregnancy.

have severe depression as well as anxiety disorder. I have never had this problem during pregnancy, and its only getting worse. My doctor ok’d me for zoloft which I have been taking for a month now, but it is having no effect. In the past, whenever I have had these problems Paxil got rid of it completely. I stopped taking it at the beginning of this pregnancy because of the risk of heart defects. Since the heart is developed now, Im wondering would it be okay to start taking Paxil since I am now 13 weeks? Im going to the doctor when I get the chance so I don’t need you to tell me to do that, please speak from experience or actual knowledge. Thank you.

I am 25 weeks pregnant and feel like my doctor turns a deaf ear to my comments and concerns. She delivered my oldest when she was born and has been my female doctor before and after that. As a gynecologist or an OB for someone without any issues or problems, she is great. But I suffer from fibromyalgia and can’t take any meds to help with that while pregnant. Since I have been pregnant I sleep anywhere from 1-4 hours a night and not all at once due to extreme pain from the fibro. I’m having severe siatic nerve pain in my lower back and can’t seem to do anything without it causing pain. I have started suffering from hot flashes and panic attacks about a month ago and I have a boss who is ticked she hired a pregnant woman without knowing it and is determined to make the last few months of my pregnancy miserable and not be remotely helpful with letting me flex my schedule a bit to allow me to sleep. The docs office tells me to talk to my family doc since things are’t “pregnancy related” but the pregnancy is making the fibro worse. The fam doc won’t do anything about it since I’m pregnant. But the OB tells me to ask them for ambien and vicoden to help with sleeping and pain. WTF?? Those are both class C narcotics! The fam doc thinks she’s nuts. It’s late in the pregnancy to search for another doctor and there aren’t many in my area not in the OB’s practice. I have my next appt Monday and really could use some advice on what to say to her to get her to understand I can’t handle the pain and no sleep and work a full time job and care for my oldest at night while husband is at work. Has anyone else gone through this? Do I ask for them to reduce my hours at work or bedrest?

Please, no rude comments or answers.
FYI – I’m still working because we are a family that needs both incomes. While I would love to be a stay at home mom, I have to have an income or we have no home or car. My husband carries the benefits but we still need my paycheck to get by and as it is, we live paycheck to paycheck. We do not have a large home or expensive cars or “toys” we just need my income to pay bills.
