Pregnancy and anxiety disorder?

Long story short I’ve had a very hard pregnancy due to having anxiety. I can only take a very small dose of medication which helps only a little. With my anxiety I have health anxiety so I’m nervous everytime I feel even the slightest bit dizzy etc etc. Do any of you out there deal with somewhat the same thing? How do you handle it especially now being pregnant? Its made this pregnancy miserable for me. I basically have myself on bed rest because of my anxiety. (I don’t like to be alone so when I am I tend to lie in bed all day unless I go into my mom’s while my husband works.) Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

Its just difficult because the symptoms I feel from anxiety (dizziness, shakiness, some depression.) Makes me think somethings going wrong with the pregnancy even though I know its most likely my anxiety.. I don’t eat as well as I should etc. Again any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Anxiety in Pregnancy

Anxiety attacks during pregnancy are a very common occurrence for a number of women. Pregnancy can be stressful and especially difficult if you are nervous, anxious, highly strung, tense, and sensitive or already suffer from anxiety attacks. Often it is the excitement of the baby that brings on anxiety attacks. They can also be brought on when a woman was not expecting to get pregnant and finds herself in that situation. Other times, anxiety attacks are brought on because the woman just becomes worried with the whole pregnancy in general.

It can be hard not to experience anxiety attacks during pregnancy. If a woman has already experienced one high risk pregnancy before, then there is a chance that she is going to expect this pregnancy to be the same. If it is a first pregnancy, the expectant mother is also most likely going to experience a good bit of anxiety about the labour and birth. She will have issues about being a good mother, overall health concerns and in some cases even financial concerns. Also, those who have suffered miscarriages are especially prone to anxiety attacks, for obvious reasons.

Pregnancy and Anxiety. Is it dangerous?

Right before I got pregnant I started having anxiety attacks. And didn’t really get a chance to get any treatment for that. And then it was too late cause I got pregnant and couldn’t take anything anyway. I don’t know where this anxiety came from. I’m not an anxious person. My life is pretty smooth too. But it came from somewhere I guess. Early in pregnancy I had a few panic attacks. Then they seemed to get better, stop actually. I’m 24 weeks now and I had an attack the other day again. Every time I feel it coming I try to stop it trying to control my breath which usually helps a lot. My question is if it’s bad for the baby. I’m sure there’s definitely nothing good about it but how really bad are the panic attacks for the baby?

Anxiety during pregnancy is a very common feeling during the all 9 months. Even when a baby is very much wanted, pregnancy is a time when women experience a whole variety of emotions, one of the most prominent of which is anxiety. Women who have had problems in conceiving a baby may be extremely anxious about whether they will be able to hold on to this pregnancy.

Women who have had previous miscarriages are fearful until they are well beyond the last date at which they previously lost a baby. You may feel frightened all the time because of your previous miscarriage or miscarriages, and you may feel worried about whether you are going to have another miscarriage or not. So previous miscarriages can cause mixed reactions with your current or future pregnancies.

I currently suffer from generalised anxiety disorder and am in my 22nd week of pregnancy. I’m constantly tense and anxious and find it hard to relax. Although I don’t get panick attacks any more & am sleeping well, I am really worried that my anxiety will harm my baby or something might happen because I am so tense.

Some women are more sensitive to hormonal fluctuations than others. For many women, anxiety issues appear for the first time during periods of hormonal change. For other women, hormonal changes intensify previously existing anxiety symptoms.

What is the best way to deal with anxiety and panic attacks, especially during pregnancy?

I know all the techniques- meditation, breathing, music, visual… I’ve had a lot going on lately and have had a history of anxiety, but have been able to handle my own all these years until now. Therapy is a joke- there is nothing I haven’t heard or or even said myself to help others in these scenarios.

To put it bluntly- the techniques don’t work when I get panicky and the only medications that haven’t ever given me a nasty reaction (such as leave me depressed, non functional, or extremely moody) is xanax and valium. However, I don’t want to touch these drugs with a 10 foot pole for fear of dependency and I have battled PCOS and have recently seen results with Metformin treatments- meaning I could get pregnant anytime, and of course I want to be careful of that.

Stress can be a major contributor to an anxiety or panic condition or the trigger that will start anxiety disorders. For many people who have personalities that are predisposed to anxiety, stressful events or the accumulation of stressful events over a relatively short period of time can lead to anxiety symptoms.

As our economy becomes increasingly perilous, more and more people are struggling with anxiety. You are not alone! Millions of Americans are grappling with panic attacks, extreme anxiety and the negative effects of these conditions. The symptoms can be frightening and contribute to depression and more trouble with your job or family.

To determine whether your stress load has become too much, think back over the past year or two of your life. Think about the events or changes in your life that may have contributed to your stress level. Individual events or changes may not have been overwhelming by themselves but when they are coupled with other events, the cumulative effect may be major.
