The Truth About Paxil Birth Defects Shocked Women Who Had Used The Drug During Pregnancy
Article by Roger Design
Women who are currently using Paxil as a part of their treatment for a behavioral disorder such as depression, anxiety or stress, will be warned that if they have plans on becoming pregnant that they should stop using this medication. This is because research has been done on Paxil and other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors that shows there’s a great risk to the fetus when the drug is used during or around the beginning of the pregnancy. Similar risks may exist with other medications that a woman could be using and that’s something that should be discussed with a doctor once the decision has been made to try and have a baby. But when Paxil was initially released in 1992, these same warnings were not made available to patients or doctors. Not long after, some began to speculate of the possible risks these medications posed to an unborn child, which prompted a number of independent studies. The results began to confirm these suspicions and it became clear that the potential for Paxil birth defects was substantial. However, it took several more years before the makers of Paxil, GlaxoSmithKline, acknowledged these risks and that was only after the FDA took the step of reclassifying it as a Category D drug. For over a decade women were giving birth to children with Paxil birth defects that they had no way of knowing were connected to their use of the medication, which in some cases, they were continuing to use. Once the truth about Paxil came out, these women and their families were shocked and were unsure of how to react. A common question was what responsibility did GlaxoSmithKline bear in this situation and the prevailing sentiment was that they needed to be held accountable.Children with Paxil birth defects, which include conditions ranging from physical deformities to congenital heart diseases, require extensive medical care, something that can present monetary issues for these families. The victims that have taken the step of filing a Paxil lawsuit have been able to reduce some of the burden they’re facing as a result of these medical bills. Successful pharmaceutical lawsuits have raised awareness and given others the courage to step forward. The Law Offices of Chandler, Mathis, & Zivley, PC, provide a free legal consultation for those considering a prescription drug lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline. Panic Attacks & Pregnancy – What You Didn’t Know About Panic Attacks During Pregnancy
Many expectant mothers experience panic attacks. Pregnancy actually tends to make the symptoms more pronounced. The symptoms can be very scary and they tend to cause a lot of unneeded stress. Most future mothers tend to be overly cautious and a little nervous. These two emotions leave them very vulnerable to panic and anxiety.
Women typically start developing panic and anxiety at various stages of pregnancy. The symptoms are most likely to develop either during the initial stages of pregnancy or after their children are born. Then there are the women that have already suffered from panic… the ones with a preexisting condition. These women have a tendency to be negatively affected by panic during pregnancy. Hormonal changes are typically the culprit for these emotions and fears.
38 weeks and having anxiety about new baby?!?!?
I have an anxiety disorder, which has been pretty mild in the past couple years, that I usually take medication for (only as needed), but opted not to take any meds (very few that are safe) during pregnancy. With my first pregnancy, I didn’t have any anxiety at all!! I was so mellow the whole 9 months. Once he was born though, the letdown of hormones was too much for me and I went back on meds right away. A lot of it is that I fear change. I feel like my husband and son and I have such a nice, normal, happy little family with our routines and now the new baby is going to take a lot of adjusting to. I’m happy to be having her, but I am worried about the anxiety that I know I will have once she’s here. I fear that I will lose the sense of “normalcy” that I have now, and that freaks me out! I have discussed it with my doctor and he has assured me that he will put me back on meds the very day that I deliver (I’m not breastfeeding, so it will be safe), but I’m still feeling a lot of anxiety now. I feel sad in a way, that it will no longer just be me and my son during the days, when my husband is at work. My son (3) and I do a lot together and are very close and I enjoy our time together, so I feel sad that my time alone with him is coming to an end. I’m sure I’m not the only one who had had anxiety about a new baby or feeling sad about time with my son, so I’m hoping that others who have “been there and done that” can give me some advice and encouragement. Like, how did you deal with it? What can I do to keep a sense of normalcy? I would really appreciate all helpful answers, thanks!
Haw can I reduce anxiety about my pregnancy?
11 yrs. ago, a doctor told me I won’t be able to have kids. I just found out today that I’m 13 weeks pregnant. Now I’m EXTRA nervous because I keep constantly worrying, being afraid. Wondering, “What if I have a miscarriage?” How can I stop this irrational negative self-talk?
Why Are More Women Phobic? What About Emotional Stress?
The reported incidence of phobic behavior is at least four times greater for women than it is for men. Some estimates suggest there are ten times as many phobic women as phobic men. Yet no one has ever been able to offer a satisfactory explanation for this.
Of course many people, both professional and nonprofessional, have tried to explain these puzzling statistics. Some suggest that “women are more emotional than men,” that “women think too much,” or that “women have nothing better to do all day than worry.” Others suggest that men are less willing to admit they have a problem and that these “closet phobics” are biasing the statistics.
anxiety about pregnancy and hiv test?
In my past I have had unprotected sex with 3 men that were not my husband. I just gave blood for my routine hiv test with pregnancy. I am so worried, I am healthy, but I know it can lay dormant in your system for a long time. Those of you who already had the test, were you really anxious and did it turn out okay?
Stop Worrying About Ovarian Cysts During Pregnancy – End Them Quickly at Home
Because ovarian cysts strike girls who are mostly premenopausal, an Ovarian Cyst Miracle when pregnant is a major concern. Cysts are a threat during pregnancy, they can also cause complications to the girl who is trying to conceive.
Because cysts can disrupt the menstrual cycle, or occasionally result in anovolation, conceiving can be really difficult. Women afflicted with ovarian cysts don’t experience the standard release of the hormone or LH, the chemical that excites the egg to be freed from the follicle monthly.
