Postpartum depression is a very real illness that affects millions of women every year. It is often referred to as the “baby blues” and not taken seriously. Some women may experience severe depression that includes thoughts of suicide, harming their newborn, or extreme depression. Postpartum depression is heightened by the lack of sleep and the stress of caring for a newborn.
It is estimated that 80 percent of all women experience some form of postpartum depression after giving birth. It does not usually kick in until at least three days after giving birth and can last for a few short weeks or up to six months. It is normal to experience some weepiness, tiredness, restlessness and a general feeling of grouchiness during the weeks following birth. Mild female depression does not interfere with the mother’s ability to care for the newborn child.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problem, and include panic disorders, agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Anxiety disorders develop due to an interplay between enviromnental and genetic factors. Cognitive behavior therapy is useful for this disorder, as well as prescription anxiolytic drugs.
However, many patients prefer a natural approach or dislike the side effects of prescription drugs, and there are many non-prescription supplements available to help anxiety. Before starting natural supplements for an anxiety problem, be sure to mention your concerns and get a general checkup from your doctor. Since I have been pregnant I have decided to give up my career in the Army since my husband is in and be a mom. Well that means a big life change. Now I’m on strict bed-rest due to pre-term labor and am staying home all day, bored out of my mind and the stress keeps pilling on. I’ve had a car wreck my back can’t heal due to the weight of my belly, my truck is messing up, my finances are going crazy, my husband is leaving for Iraq possibly before the baby is born, I got bit by a spider and my leg is all swollen and it hurts to walk, and on and on. Now I spend all the time I have with my husband fighting over stupid things and it is really starting to get to me. I feel so lost and worried and sad. I know I need to do something to keep from losing it, but I don’t know what. I want to be able to love my husband every second he is here, but I can’t help the rage and uselessness I feel inside. Someone please help me.

I know it’s normal to feel more emotional during pregnancy, and this has been an emotional week for everyone (with the VT shootings and all), but I have been crying on and off for days. I want to cry all the time. Is this normal, or should I start to worry about depression?

To put a long story short… I’m 20 weeks pregnant, keep having panic attacks and just want relief!
I’d like to know how to prevent them, but the problem with that is that I’m not sure what triggers them! They pretty much come out of no where. I don’t think I’ve met anyone else that has random panic attacks, is this common?
I’ve had anxiety/panic disorder for about five years, so it’s nothing new.

Keeping a tab on your pregnancy week by week is a good idea, if you want to avoid unnecessary worries and anxieties. The pregnancy period usually lasts for 40 weeks. The entire period is divided into three stages called pregnancy trimesters. Lets have a look at each stage.
The first trimester starts from week 1 and goes up to week 14. The second trimester lasts from week 15 to 26. The third trimester is from week 27 to week 40.
